Kwarta o Kahon was the oldest TV game show in the Philippines!  Pero hindi pinagkwartahan ang mga contestants..

Guys, remember the 1M celebrity winnings does not go to the celebrity but to a selected charity.

Im just wondering why they can't give it straight forward to the charity without the publicity.

Hi almondski! ;D

That's almost like a chicken or egg question! (which came first?)

The show is a business that's designed to make profits. They would not have the money to give without the show or publicity.

The money comes from the show's revenues or earnings.

Without a sizeable audience, advertisers would not buy air time, the show would not earn, consequently, no money to give.

It seems this cycle is necessary to ensure an income stream. They give the money in that manner to get the most media mileage and free publicity, this will give the show a larger audience share and therefore sustained revenues.

my 2 cents. ;D

So, are they using poor family and charity as part to promote their gambling business  by disguise of giving donations? ???

This is not entirely correct, but it is not entirely wrong either.

I read somewhere that "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" was banned in some Muslim Countries because of the requirement of having to pay to get in (the toll phone call). I guess that was for the stricter Muslim Countries. Indonesia has been showing it, I am not clear as to the mechanics of the show there.

Having said that, paying to get in can qualify it as gambling as there are cash prizes involved, the entrance fee can be classified as a bet.

On the other hand, the revenues of the show are not entirely derived from the toll phone calls, but from sponsors. So it does not necessarily qualify as gambling.

We could be splitting hairs here on a fine point, but I believe my earlier post on this being a business cycle still holds true. The charity is a form of promotion, but I don't think that it exists to justify the "gambling".

Besides when you look at it closer, the charity came from the winner and not the show. The show would have had to give the prize money anyway to the winner.

Just my observation.

Has anyone seen the latest game show "GAME KA NA BA?" hosted by Kris Aquino on Channel 2?

I think it sucks!

Poor Kris!  She's better off with her old talk show.

Why so surprised?  I've always thought Kris A. is a talentless social climber.  Her shows succeed (if ever -- remember just how many short-lived shows she has had since she entered showbiz) or more often fail due to her enormous lack of appeal, intelligence, and audience empathy.

Was intrigued by all the hype so I thought I'd tune in to see if it was really a good game show.  I thought the questions were st***d.  I think they should change the name of the show to:  TATAGAL KAYA KAMI?

Hmm...ayaw talaga mag-work "Quote" ko.  Everytime I click quote to reply...An error has occurred.  ???

Anyway, Cruzsack, yes, ginaya nya outfit ni Anne Robinson except that Kris' coat is red then yellow on the 2nd ep.

Did you know that Anne Robinson is hosting both the UK and US versions of the Weakest Link?  I heard she's paid 15M UK Pounds for the US show alone!  Can you believe that?!?  That's over a billion pesos already!

------

Hi Gonz!  Actually, I'm not really surprised. I just want to get people's reaction about the show...   ;D

------

Hi Utoy!  Yes, her voice!!!  KAKAIRITA!!! Can someone ask her to stop shouting!   ;D  Hmm...why don't I just stop watching the show?!?

It was only tonight that I was able to see it.

Naawa nga ako kay Kris kasi if you observe the manner in which she talks eh madali siyang mapapaos sa show na iyon.

The irritating part for me is when she points to the audience and she asks.. "Game ka na ba?" Sobrang paulit-ulit.

Nainis naman ako kasi the fonts they are using are sometimes not easily readable. Eh medyo malaki na ang TV ko, what more kung maliit na TV?.

But come to think of it, there were a lot of "puna" during the first showings of Who Wants...  Baka naman we're also going thru the same thing but this time we have Who Wants to compare with.

E,

o magbabalik ang "THE BUZZ", hehehe.

Vax,

My "Quote" still won't work...eniweys, yun pala sinasabi nila drama ng show.  Wawa naman si Kris, nag-run tuloy mascara nya (duh).  ???  But in fairness to her, nakaka-iyak talaga experience ni Julia, mahirap mag-commute 'no!  Este, ma-remata!  Este, maloko pala ng manager!  :'(

Martin Nievera pala was the first choice to host the show but had to turn down the offer because of previous commitments...  Hmm, lucky him!!! I think he's too good for the show.  Walang kokontra, opinyon ko lang yon  ::)

On Weakest Link, I think it will start airing on Monday na, the 15th (aba! kasabay ng sale sa Astrovision!)  ;D

Kung minsan ay mali-mali naman ang questions sa mga category... Isang beses ay SINE SINE ang category tapos ang tanong ay kung sino ang magulang ama ni Eigenmann...
choices: Mark Gil, Cheril Gil, Ting Gil, Gil Portes  :o

So nasaan ang tungkol sa SINE?? Tungkol sa SIN eh yan ng mga actors siguro!  ;D
