Check nyo din po Yamaha Soundbars...  :)

Yup! Magaganda Yamaha YSP Series.
I have been using a YSP2200 for the longest time and I recently upgraded it to a YSP 2500.

Almost same yung sound quality, more updated features lang yung YSP 2500 and 4K passthrough vs 1080p passthrough of 2200.

If I may ask, how much did you get the YSP 2500, and which local vendor carries the product ... thanks in advance

LoL!

It's 110V though. 5th Ave carries the 220V version. Was supposed to get from them for warranty and voltage convenience, pero the Amazon offer was really good then. Wala na now, wanted to get one for my parents sana.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I highly doubt that a soundbar can replicate an Atmos experience.

At best, simulated surround sound. Atmos? I doubt it too.

You are both correct. But at least they can process the signals in their raw/uncompressed format. Which makes it ideal for not so big viewing areas.
I notice the difference between HD audio and DTS/AC3 audio that's why I opt for an HD Audio compatible device.

I agree with you. Soundbars are ideal for not so big viewing areas. It's overkill for a full HT in very tight spaces.

Actually I came from a 5.1 full HT setup, but since I live in the Metro and condo living is our preference, sakto yung ganitong setup.
I was at a low 40s sa volume when I had a AVR and separates. With a soundbar I'm at 50's to mid 60's sa volume percentage.

Plus, subok ko na talaga yung Sound Projection ng Yamaha. Pwedeng pwede na. (Dapat lang at that price though)
HTH!

there's an upcoming (hoping they'd be sent to PH market) of Samsung and LG soundbars with ATMOS decoding..  I think the Sammy hi-end model has an up-firing speakers on the main soundbar unit (and has a wireless pair of rear speakers).. sa ibabaw ng TV siguro ito best i-mount not to block the soundwave supposed to bounce-off the ceiling to the listening spot.  users with tight spaces will pay the price for this audio tech, though.

while DTS Virtual:X has come to Yamaha YAS-207 priced @ 300USD -- this one's inexpensive!

saw this one at Amazon, also a Yamaha soundbar with Atmos -

https://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-YSP-5600-Music-Sound-Dolby/dp/B016B44AP4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498634217&sr=8-1&keywords=ysp-5600

it simulates 7.1.2 channel, but mixed reviews ... I would assume that it would depend on the size of room ... probably good for condo living

Thanks for the replies re: atmos soundbar. Apologies I forgot to mention that I will be living in a condo. Living room has a squarish dimension and ceiling is not high. So I guess bouncing sound will be very effective in simulating atmos sound.  Samsung HW-K950 (5.1.4 where main sound bar has 2 up-firing speakers as well as the wireless rear speakers) and LG SJ9 (5.1.2) are currently available here in Philippines but can't find any on display/demo on most stores I've been to (the LG SJ9 is currently by order basis). I don't know yet if Sony HT-ST5000 is available here.

If any of you know of any store which has these on display please let me know. TIA.

they've just been released or I think are yet to be released.  it's good to have them here in PH, very soon!

if you're willing to spend as much as +USD1,500, I guess you should check out the Marantz' slimline AVR NR-1607/1608 and possibly use a medium-sized bookshelf for your fronts and smallish satellites 5.1 set to get the whole 5.1.2 immersive audio =))  these would be several times better than a soundbar =)

IMHO, dba sir ang audio support naman ng mga files ineencode po yun ng player na gagamitin ninyo?

ang soundbar po ata sir tatanggap lang po yan ng signal from your source. kaya kahit anong soundbar will do .

correct me nalang if im wrong with this..

Depends on how you connect pero most often, the player will just give digital signals and the soundbar has to decode the digital signal. Those DTS and Dolby are proprietary so kailangan both the player and the "receiver" (the soundbar) in this case needs licensing for the gears to decode DTS or Dolby etc.

Agree with Konsi. Sony CT380 can decode DTS HDMA and Dolby TrueHD/Digital via HDMI. This soundbar (with HDMI ARC) is a perfect match for a 40" LED tv (with HDMI ARC).

Most soundbars now are powered and have their own amps built-in unlike before when the soundbars are passive and practically same as standard speakers.  You would need the built-in amps to decode the signal from the source, hence you would have to confirm if what you're buying would support the standards that you would frequently use.
