Its sad to think that our classic movies are slowly missing and rotting in some bodega's. I have a big collection of Pinoy classic movies. My friend and I converted them into high quality DVD in dolby stereo sound. Here some of the list

Maynila sa Kuko ng Liwanag
Salome
Himala
Darna at ang babaeng tuod
Insiang
and more....

My movies are all original copies and with the new technology you can enhanced them and make your own DVD w/ covers. I just can't wait anymore for someone to act and save my favorite films.

whoa! not that i am promoting piracy here but if your copies are really that clear, can we have an arrangement to have them transferred to dvd format. it's gonna be for personal consumption only.

I dont see it that way. My goal is to save my favorite movies and to preserve them for the next generation. I have a quite collection of pinoy movies from Charito Solis "Igorota'' Rita Gomez black and white movie. Drama like Insiang. Nora and Vilma old films. Fantasy movies like Dyesebel series, Darna, Zuma, Dabiana. Horror flicks like pagsapit ng dilim, Gumising ka Maruja, Shake Rattle and Roll, patayin mo sa sindak si barbara and more. some of my vhs are starting to have defects the only way to save them is to convert them to dvd and yes there is a new dvd burner that you can enhance the pictures and make it a dolby digital stero its the latest version of sony. I think its only illegal if you reproduce the movies and make money out it. my case, I'm doing it for art sake

Hi everyone!

I was checking out the Kabayan Online store (http://www.kabayancentral.com/index.html) and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience ordering from this site. I was tempted to go right ahead and order Maynila pero mukhang nag prevail ang caveat emptor for the meantime. I also found a DVD of the first scorpio nights that comes out to about 1300 if I order it from them (kahit na shipped to QC). I was wondering if anyone has seen this in DVD in the shops dito sa Manila and what price it sells for. I mean, if this is available sa brick and mortar at a much lower price, then better.

Yung Maynila comes out to about to almost 1500 for a VHS - do you think it would be ok to purchase the VHS from them?

I'd like to hear how the transfer on the Scorpio Nights DVD is too.

They also are selling a widescreen VHS copy of Manuel Silos' Biyaya Ng Lupa for $24.99. Hefty price tag, but nice to hear that it's in widescreen.

The quality of the video is very good & the 30-minute behind the scenes featurette is really informative I just wished it could've been longer. I have no idea if this is the one produced by Mike de Leon but I haven't seen the movie in widescreen until now.

KISAPMATA dvd will be release soon. Its really a good news looking for this Mike de Leon masterpiece. Cinefilipino and Unitel Pictures are backing up more classic Pinoy films for dvd release in the near future.

unitel/cinefilipino or whoever releases local film classics should follow what criterion is doing. restore the master negatives of the classics first, if they still exist. what they usually do here kasi is transfer the exisiting positive directly to video. minsan pa nga vhs/umatic to vcd/dvd na lang. kaya madumi pa rin ang video at audiio, di pa widescreen.

the problem is, it costs a lot ot money to restore old films, with all the color-correcting of video and the remastering of audio. hay, nakakainggit ang catalogue ng criterion.

pero ang impt ngayon, kahit vcd format basta magkarun ng kopya. para hindi sa cable lang napapanood.

As much as I agree with you, I have to say:

That's never gonna happen.

They wouldn't have the budget for it, and DVD sales wouldn't be enough for them to turn a profit.

That's really the bottom line, sadly.

As far as I know, Star Cinema has only the cable rights for the 4 ECP films (Oro Plata Mata, Himala, Misteryo sa Tuwa & Soltero).

The dvd release will never materialize. Only if Peque can get the masterprint, he will surely release it on dvd.

One solution to that is tap into the INTERNATIONAL market. I'm pretty sure there are enough cinephiles all over the world who'll wish to check out the classics of Filipino cinema.

Looks like Star Video is "slowly but surely" releasing ECP films on DVD, 2 more to go... hopefully all within this year.
