One of the most exciting aspects of the RS780 chipset on the AMD 780G boards is that it incorporates the hardware decoding of VC-1, H.264, MPEG2 with it's UVD technology that was formerly available on discrete graphics cards. With it, you can offload the CPU and let the chipset with integrated graphics handle the decoding.

I have a similar setup but it's crying for an upgrade though.  And I took out the 8800GTS since it consumes a lot of electricity (I think) and this is essentially a torrent rig.

Are the HDMI ports of these HTPC capable of putting out 7.1 through HDMI? The rig I built was only capable of outputting 2 channel sound through HDMI to my HDMI receiver. Thus I kinda lost interest :(.

Or was there some setting I didnt toggle?

@tambutsoo and sickboy

Great setup mga sir.  ;D

I'm already using Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H for my HTPC but I believe I haven't maximize it's full potential yet.

@Matzter

I believe GA-MA78GM-S2H is capable of 7.1 audio by using toslink but not pretty much sure when using HDMI. You're using Emaxx, right?

Yes, I think so (forgot already, haha).

I am looking for 7.1 audio through HDMI so as to utilize my HDMI receiver's abilities. I think this isnt fully implemented yet?

Mga Bro.
San available PC market sa atin yung Gigabyte na mobo na may HDMI?
Meron din bang casing na 200 watts lang yung PSU? Para tipid sa kuryente.
Pinag iisipan ko pa kasi kung HTPC or media player eh!
budget ko 15k to 18k...

We have the same idea Bro .... 780G is a really good chipset for HTPC, but I would recommend the Gigabyte over Emaxx because of DTS Connect support available on the Gigabyte MoBo ...there's also the new 790G chipset coming up, the only difference is the "sideport" - this functions as some sort of discrete memory or cash for the video processor and said to improve performance on 3d gaming at almost the same price level of the 780G ... my only worry about the Gigabyte 790G is that it supports Dolby environment, but the DTS logo is no longer included, hence I think the 780G would still be better if your primary usage is HTPC and not gaming.

To complement this, and if you're really thinking of budget HTPC, there's the Antec NSK1360 mini-casing with an 80%+ efficiency power supply built-in ...it sells at around 4k+ in Gilmore QC ... or if you have more budget, there's the Antec Fusion 430 HTPC casing (sold in black & silver) at around 9K+ - this has a built-in power supply, front panel display and remote, and this will blend in nicely with any of your other AV components...i'm not recommending the cheap casing with low-end power supply units because the usual usage for HTPC's are usually higher, and the fans included on cheap power supply units are usually noisy (no good for HTPC).

Marantz NR1200, MartinLogan Motion 20 digital audio setup, and Sony A80J

Very nice.  Lagi ko nakikita yan casing na yan.  Very inexpensive indeed.  Kaya lang, masyadong bulky for my sala.

tolerable naman ang fan noise.. Although since sabay sila naka-on ng window aircon, mas naririnig ko siguro yun.
Also, ala palang kasamang KB/mouse ito tska used my old IDE dvd writer, which would explain the lwoer cost  ;D

For less bulky looking casing, you may want to look at diva casings   :)
