Ano ba ang accurate definition ng HTPC?  What I have is a PC that plays all sorts of media, but it definitely looks like a normal desktop.

Definition of Home Theater PC in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTPC    ;D

HTPC Characteristics

TV Connectivity - Pass

Minimal Noise Level - Highly questionable with 5 fans running inside the desktop case alone, and external drives with their own cooling fans, no noise dampener of any sort - But I dont hear them when watching something

High Storage Capacity - Pass but you'll never have enough of memory space

TV Tuner Card - Pass but useless because Im already connected to a TV anyway

Remote - Dont have (Fail)

Pass lahat dito ang PC ko, but same as Sir Clondalkin, I do not consider it as an HTPC .... it's still an all-rounder desktop PC ... for me, my definition of an HTPC besides what is mentioned above, is that it is dedicated for multi-media player function and seats on the AV rack with my AVR, DVD player, NMT, etc.

If my definition of an HTPC fits your requirements, I would say that you do not really need a powerful processor ... what is required is graphics card or integrated graphics processor that has hardware-based graphics acceleration for HD contents - AMD 780G chip-based MoBo would serve this purpose well, complement this with a single-core AMD LE1640 CPU and you'll have an energy efficient and silent system (since you do not need a lot of fans to cool the system and a relatively cheap to assemble system ... medyo kailangan lang lakihan ng konti ang memory since the integrated graphics controller would utilize a chunk of the main memory...with this configuration, it will play all the 1080p contents that you have without choking.

By the way, my consideration on the above configuration is that you have a separate powerful PC that you would use for encoding and other serious stuff (like 3D gaming...hehe) .... the above configuration of HTPC would only be used as media center and also for torrent downloads, since it consumes less electricity and quite cheap - casing lang magpapamahal dyan kung magandang klaseng casing ang bibilhin mo.

My consideration on the ab

Lots of new PC casings available at Gilmore.  Micro-ATX's mostly with remotes. Small footprint and looks nice with LED displays, volume knobs and such.

Hi JT- yup yup, can play up to 720p w/o hiccups, but with 3g RAM with 500G HDD mod and 8400GS upgrade and hybrid sli, it was also able to act as a gaming pc, and play 1080P files.
