Altec Lansing 619-8A Duplex Loudspeakers
« on: Jul 16, 2008 at 12:12 AM »
I'm currently using a pair of this speakers for my audio setup.

Connected to an Altec Lansing 1269 Amplifier

I use it for 2 channel audio mostly classical music.

What are your feedback on the setup mentioned above? Just gathering info if the speakers are good. From what i've googled so far they are considered to be pro speakers. its an old model and i would like to know your inputs if this speakers can hold their own with the speakers being released today?

I don't think there are many users of Altec speakers here, especially your Altec model, although back in the '70s and '80s, that's a major brand among Filipino audio enthusiasts. I've owned 3 Altec pairs in the '80s, all home speakers. They sound from warm to hot, the type that Japanese and Filipino audio enthusiasts in those days like a lot.

Your units are coaxial ceiling mounts used in auditoriums and in small theaters, not for serious home listening or studio monitoring. Based on its specs, the positive side of 619-8A is its high sensitivity, good for low-power amps, could probably be a good match for valve amps.

There's not much literature about 619-8A, in other words few fans out there, and nothing much from the Lansing Heritage website: http://www.audioheritage.org/ where true James B. Lansing believers hang out.

It could be a rare item and if it sounds good to your ears, it should be a keeper.

di rin ako masyado familiar sa terms hehe :)

i'm also using an altec driver but in a single driver configuration (single driver per channel in an open baffle setup). like so...

i'm assuming naka mount yung driver mo in a closed baffle type speaker?

cheers

i see. pero for me okay na okay ako sa performance nito. actually before i was considering on getting a new amplifier for it. but the prob is i dont know if the ones available in the market would match it. i cant bring the speakers with me naman kasi ang laki nun and ang laki din ng casing ng speakers mismo.

it's really best to audition a component in your own system so you can personally hear any improvement/s (subtle or otherwise).

at the end of the day, whatever makes you (and your ears) happy, is the most important.

enjoy the music.

cheers

Here's the PDF file on the 619-8A:

http://www.altecpro.com/pdfs/vintage/SpeakerAndMics/ceiling/619-8A%20Ceiling%20Speaker.pdf

Nice speaker drivers at 100 dB spl, it would work very well with an SET amp  ;)

Sandawa's link on the Altec heritage site would give you an idea on the cabinets you can use  ;)

Cheers.
