Anyone using a 500GB Imation Venus? Does it fall under the category of cheap but reliable portable drives?

How long does it take to defragment a 1TB drive that's 80% filled?  Thanks.

Depende, just check whether the adaptor of the enclosure is the same with the HD, like sata II connector to your sata II HD, as IDE connectors to IDE HD.

If you are going to use hard drives for media players, your best bet would be WD green drives as they have low temp and low wattage consumption. For USB external drives, faster drives like 7,200 RPM drives and 10K-15K would be ideal. We usually use high speed (high speed=high wattage=high temp) drives for video editing and multimedia productions because we have good air conditioning and ventilation in our studio or office. But for consumer reliability, slower more efficient drives are better (specially if your house is not air-conditioned).
