What is the model of the Philips DVD Player that you got sir? :P

What I got was the Philips DVP3980K/98 w/ 1080p upscaling thru HDMI, no USB port but can play Divx/AVI files thru DVD-R/RW for less than P4k.   :D  So far so good!  Hope this doesn't fail me.

Ako naman yung DV400 ko parating "No Disc" after 6 months of scarce usage.  Buti nalang naka-warranty pa and Pioneer changed the MPEG board.  After a year and 1 month, same problem occurred pero wala ng warranty. Brought it to Pioneer and they told me that they had to change the ribbon connector and ok na.  They still tested it before I got the unit and then nagloko na naman.  Sabi nila dalhin na daw sa main service center kasi MPEG board na yung sira.  Problema, wala ng warranty kaya malamang mahal na ang repair. So I just pulled out the unit.  Good thing wala silang siningil sakin.  Tested a few DVDs so far ok naman pero di nako aasang tumagal.   Mukhang lemon din ang nabili ko.  :-\

Parang yoko na ata ng Pioneer kaya sumubok naman ako ng Philips.  Parang mas maganda pa ata yung Philips na nabili ko sa upscaling compared to the Pioneer.  :P

senyales kaya yun (dv610). last night, after ko magpalit ng dvd, though di pa naman nagtatagal yun unang dvd, pagload sabi "no disc", ginawa ko, nilabas at pinasok ko uli, nagbasa naman... hmmm.  original naman yun dvd..

sana di...

sayang yung pio mo bro ah ..

So far it can still read my DVDs after getting it from the service center.  Sana di na mag "No Disc".  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  Feeling ko yung mga bagong Pio ngayon parang mahina na yung lens as compared to the older models....or what I got was a lemon lang.   :P

Thanks for sharing with us. ;D I'm sure that if I get one, it won't the same...I still have to consider my DVD collection. So I am sure that both will be of use to me. ;)

i know it can play files from an external hard disc drive, depends on how the hdd is formatted, dapat ata fat32. mkv files are usually video files that are in hidef. although avi files can ba hidef too, but hd files available in the internet are usually in mkv containers, while files in avi containers are usually only dvd quality.

pioneer dvd players with usb can't play mkv files. only divx on avi containers.

I tried plugging in my portable HD (sa dv-610)..ayaw nya basahin. its formatted fat32. The I decided to move a file to a smaller capacity flash drive, hayun binasa and nag play. I might go and get a bigger flash drive tomorrow for this.

Tinutopak ang DELL XPS M1330 ko pag pinaplugin ko ang hdmi going to Regza :-\.... dunno for what reason, so decided to burn the video files to dvd instead. The DV-610 played them well... walang katapusang Little Einstein na to.  ;D

i think may issue talaga if you use hdmi, try it with vga and it works. unless you really want an hdmi connection.

hmmm meron pala? thought its my unit who's clunking. Got myself an 8gb flash disk (cdrk run out of 16gb units). Loaded the anime series of Shakugan no Shana.... worked flawlessly. Oh only problem I found so far..is that using USB, the unit tends to display only short portion of the file name.  :P

IMO wala ka makikita difference kasi di mo pa naman kailangan mag-upscale sa CRT eh. correct me if im wrong.

i agree with you, because crt tvs have 480 lines only, and i think your crt tv has no hdmi, so you wont be able to use the players upscaler.

i am not familiar with sir santwip's current pioneer player. but if its not a progressive scan player. then if you are not upgrading your tv. then better get a good progressive scan dvd player. then it can give you a slight improvement over an interlaced picture.

yes sir iiinas, my crt tv has no hdmi. since i won't be able to use the players upscaler, is it possible na meron pa rin akong ma experience na improvement ng sq/pq since mas bagong chips ang gamit ng 410 or 610? or i'll just settle for the latest ordinary pio player like 210 or 310. im just hoping na makabili ako ng lcd tv (but not in the near future  :() para if ever may nakaabang na akong upscaler player kung 410 or 610 na bibilin ko.

my current pio player has a "pure cinema progressive" label sa front panel. is it a progressive scan player?

your replies will be highly appreciated.

yup, its progressive already. if you are not going to buy a new lcd or plasma in the near future, i suggest you stick to what you have, because in my opinion, once you want to buy a new flat panel, there might be better dvd upscaler tech available by that time. so i suggest ipon mo nalang. malay mo, by that time you may not even want to buy an upscaler anymore but go directly to bluray (hopefully it will be cheaper by that time).

Yes AVI (divx format) and MPEG (mpg, mp4, etc) files can be played in DV600 and as well in DV610. Though not all video codecs are supported.
