i still own and use flat CRT's at home... a 29" samsung for the sala and a 21" JVC for my bedroom.

eto hindi ko inuuto sarili ko but an NMT connected to an HD CRT has arguably better PQ than that of LCD and Plasma of the same size.

My wife and I were both amazed when we connected the Egreat31B to a 32 inch Sony SFP CRT.

I was in a hunt for a replacement to my vintage 29 inch bedroom TV.  Initially, I thought of getting a 32 inch LCD.  But taking a look at several brands in various appliance stores convinced me that even the hi-end LCD models are still less eye friendly compared to Plasma and CRT TVs.  Getting a second plasma TV just for cable TV viewing was to me impractical while getting hold of a CRT over 29 inches was like finding a needle in a haystack.  Facing this constraints, I put off my search for a while.  Then yesterday, I came across a 34 inch CRT on sale.  The Sharp 34H-F200 was originally priced at 64K.  It was up for grabs to anyone willing to pay 28K for it.  After testing the display unit, I reckoned it had an overused tube.  At first I was told it was the only unit available, but after convincing them that I know how to assess if a CRT has had its best life behind it, they relented and offered me a sealed one from their warehouse.  It turned out that it was the only one left based on their stock card and when it reached their display area, I was able to ascertain that it was indeed new.

It was a behemoth at 70lbs.  But what really clinched the deal for me was that it has a progressive component video input capable of broadcasting 480p and 576p DVD inputs.  Given the screen size, viewing it at 5 feet and beyond on these formats will make it indistinguishable from a 720p or 1080i in my opinion. More so, my upscaling digital player, the Cambridge Audio DVD99, can precisely output in the said formats.

However as of this writing, it's doing what a CRT does best---broadcasting SD cable TV signal.

I still prefer watching DVDs and Broadcast TVs on our 21 inch SDTV.
Iba pa din talaga ang CRTs.
Yon nga lang, pag sanay ka na sa LCD, you would always notice flickering in CRTs.

My family still has and still uses our old Sony Trinitron CRT TV for more than 7 years now and I even play my PS3 with it! And although the display is not even 480p, I still find the PQ and surround sound to be superb and my only concern when playing ps3 there are the in-game texts (especially BF3). :D My only hope now is that it won't go away! :'(

Our 20 year old Sharp Cinemaborg wouldn't turn on last week. We had it fixed for P1,800 at the Sharp service center and it works fine again. Sana lahat ng bagong gadgets ganito katibay. Yun nga lang, di ka makakapag-upgrade ;D

We have been using our Panasonic 21" Sophia Black for around 13 years plus. It undergoes a technician hand for only once which I paid only 200 pesos for the service fee. The money that I paid for this CRT is about 14,000 brand new way back 1998 is never wasted. Such an incredible gadget that we use daily up to now. I can predict this will hold up to 20 years plus of service. I am never tempted yet to buy an LCD or Plasma or anything new technology except I was looking for a brand new CRT again.

On the other side of the story, I also have a 17 "Viewsonic CRT Monitor for my PC which lasted for around 10 years. I paid around 7, 000 brand new. I use it as my TV. Simply beautiful CRT. Now I bought a replacement, a 17" Philips CRT Monitor, a brand new one. The color are beautiful, natural, simply good for the 3, 000 pesos that I paid for. I am predicting that this will also last for 10 years plus.  CRT Technology is simply a technology that will last and will pay more and serve more than the amount of money you paid for it.  ;D

I still have a 21" Sony Wega which I got in 2005.  I think it's the second to the last batch of Wegas before Sony stopped making CRT TV in 2007.  It still works just fine and is proven to be more durable than LCD/LED and plasma TV, based on some users complaints and opinions in other threads.

I am keeping and holding on to this as long as I can.  Although, I understand Samsung still makes slim fit CRT

My main HTPC set-up in Tokyo since 2003.

Dual monitor: 22-inch Dell High-Grade (Graphics Designer Level) CRT and KV-32DX850 HD-CRT.  Maganda talaga ang PQ and hindi ko maitapon because they don't conk out, they are tooooo heavy and it's gonna cost me a fortune to dispose them of properly in Tokyo.

Yung dalawang Sony KV-DB29M60 DRC-MF Progressive CRT that costed me 40K each in 2006, I sold to relatives for 5K and replaced with Plasma.  Nung una, ayaw nila because Jurassic CRT daw and it was 2010-2011 na.  But once they fired up that HD-CRT, I think they felt they got one on me.  Hehehe.  Ok lang.

29" Sony WEGA KV-EX29M87
Digital Reality Creation DRC1250/Progressive
2-Tuner PIP
Dual Exhaust 3D Sound System

It's still working perfectly since 2003,
Set up in my parents room, still loving its
2-tuner PIP feature, very useful when checking LOTTO draws
while watching their fave telenovelas.
Wish this feature still present in current thin screen TVs.

orig. priced P90T back then and bought it 50% off
during Western Marketing's Annual Sale.

I think this is one of the best WEGA during that time, too bad it can't handle
any HD signals from it's component input.
Also has a huge body and weighs 56kgs!

My folks bought a black and white 19 inch Radiola TV Console sometime in 1963 (according to them).  It was built with solid wood (except the back panel, made of lawanit wood). I wasn't born yet when they bought it, but when I came around and started to have memories, the Radiola was still around.  By 1974, it was the second TV at home.  I'd watch the programs I wanted to watch if the rest of the family was watching some other program I didn't want on their newer Hitachi 17" black and white.  I remember the Hitachi had a fixed handle of top and a telescopic antenna at the back.

The Radiola had Toshiba printed on the back of the console, so we know who actually manufactured the insides of a Radiola.  When my folks upgraded to color TV in the mid-70's, a 13" Sony Trinitron with old-school channel twist and Power-Lock feature.  The Hitachi was given to our cousins.  I'd still watch stuff on TV on the Radiola when I wanted to see programs they don't want to see.  The Radiola, by the way, was attached to an outdoor, roof-mounted, TV antenna with its cable designed to be in the walls and up the roof.  By that time, the Radiola took long to start up but the picture was still clear.  Turning it off shows a white dot that fades from the screen for about a minute.

The 80s saw the Radiola still working but took much longer to start up.  I managed to look at the back of the console, and I saw vacuum tubes inside.  The picture quality was degrading by the late 80's and were becoming whiter and whiter.  By the early 90's, only the sound can be heard and the picture was all white.  By 1995, even the sound conked out and the picture tube dead.    Radiola - 1963 - 1995.  We asked the maid's brother to dismantle the antiquated TV and converted the console into a cabinet of sorts even today.

I inherited the the 13" Sony Trinitron, bought in 1977, by the time my folks got themselves a 20" Sony Trinitron with a remote control this time in 1988.  In the mid-90's the 13" Sony Trinitron had tilted horizontal white lines across the screen.  By 1996, the picture whited out, just like the Radiola.  13" Sony Trinitron - 1977 - 1996.

My folks 20" Sony Trinitron died in 2001.  My dad had passed on late 1995.  My mom was left with no TV and my sister gave her a 21" Panasonic TV (raffle-won) which my mom still uses today.  20" Sony Trinitron 1988 - 2001.

In 1996, I bought myself a 14" Aiwa.  It lasted about 9 years.  I had trouble with it when lightning struck and fried my Aiwa.  Fixing it cost me half the value of the Aiwa.  But it was still OK until the power switch started to give way.  I gave it to the maid who enjoyed it for a while but died the same year.  Aiwa - 1996 - 2005.

In 2005, I got myself a 21" Sony FD Trinitron Wega.  MTS Stereo.  Still works well.  Great picture and relatively good sound for a TV.

The time to upgrade to LED or Plasma is coming.  And the time will come when CRT will fade from use as technology advances.  But I'll cross the bridge when I get there.  And my mom will have to cross too.

I bought a Sony Wega 29" in 1999 for 51k. Left it with my folks when I got married in 2000. I remember the unit to have good bass as it had a subwoofer attached at the back. We used to do videoke with it and no need for external amplifier and speakers. The unit lost a color component (image had a yellowish hue) after 12 years. As per service center, it's costly to repair so we opted to retire it.

As a married man, my first TV was a Sony Wega 21" at 21k in 2000. It was repaired once 5 years ago due to tuner issues but still alive and heavily used until now. The unit is 140W and I tried to convince my wife to replace it with the newer LED to save on electricity. We got an LCD in 2010 but my wife still prefers to use the CRT for cable TV viewing.

When switching from a CRT TV, the first thing you'll miss is the great SQ. I had dismantled two LCD TV's just to bypass the internal speakers and connect external ones to improve the SQ without requiring external amplification. The only LCD/LED TV with good SQ (good bass) I heard so far is the Toshiba Regza which we had as replacement for the 29" Wega.

Yes bro 110v din using diy transformer. It had more horizontal lines than any other crts back in the day so basically parang clearest crt you can buy. Mahal nga yon mga a bit less than 60k ata in the early 90's.

CRT is not yet dead. My beloved Panasonic is retiring at the age of 17 years which I bought P 17,000. To compute, I spend P 1, 000 per year for that TV. Prior to this, I am still hopeful to find a brand new from Panasonic or Sony but never I found. There are still brand new CRTs but from the lesser brand like Sanyo or other China brands like Pensonic? I think they are a cop cat of Panasonic. JBC brand, copycat from JVC. People are intelligent on copying brand names, too. I never interest copycats brands, performance is questionable.

The other day I walk downtown to look for a Sharp brand new CRT 21" which I canvassed last year 2014. It's priced at 6,000. I think it's a good replacement for my retiring Panasonic. Now, I'm back at that same store however the salesman said, "Sorry Sir, there is no more supplied Sharp CRTs." I asked, about the other brands. He said, "We have Sanyo, Astron." I'll go Sanyo, how much? 10, 000? What? Sorry, I'm not interested. I said, no thanks, I have to look for other stores to see if they Sharp.

I went to another town, hopeful to find a brand new quality CRT. I passed by used CRT from Korea and Japan but never interested. Surplus TV lifespan is questionable, too. I passed by a big mall. An appliance store is at its side. While I passing by, I was surprised. A SONY CRT TV was outside along with few refrigerators. Am I dreaming? It's price 5, 500! 17 years before I was really enthusiastic to own a CRT from Sony but never the chance I was given because of the high price tag. That's why I have Panasonic. Now, I said, I could still be a proud owner of a Sony CRT TV. And that dream is now a reality. However, before I paid, I asked several questions? Is it brand new? Yes, it's an old stock in the "bodega", no more box, and remote. I can see that are still blue tapes on the corners/edges of TV, which means, really it was not yet removed. So I said, it's close to brand, but not totally brand new. Basically it's already 2015, if I'm to subtract, 1998 was year of quality Sony CRT TVs.

I was very lucky that day, my dream of owning a SONY CRT TV have been realized after 17 years of journey with Panasonic. Sony really has better colors, more real like that Panasonics CRT. I have a CRT monitor too which is IBM, the Sony is closer to the IBMs CRT color. I found a great deal. My brother said, why did you by CRT? Why not the slim sexy LCD? I said,"CRT TVs are tested for longevity, the current TV tech of LCD are questionable yet in terms of lifespan and repair. And definitely picture quality using simply cable TV or Kapamilya or Kapuso shows, CRT TV is the winner!" My brother has a Sony CRT which he bought 14 years ago for 18, 000. Now, I have with me for only 5, 500. If this TV will be with me for 5 years, I'm again 1,000 per year. However, if this TV will be faithful to me for 20 years, wow, I have paid only 250 pesos per year. The best TV for money I have!

I love my CRT TV Journey. One of my best! Salamat po for reading my short story.
