thumbnails, coverart, categories and metadata, media search, playback resume...etc.  UI seem to be way ahead of Syabas NMT.  parang XMB ng PS3. i'm jealous. :o

In stock na sa amazon but more expensive ($119).  Oh well, I guess I'll just wait for Best Buy to restock.  Sino ba main distributor ng WD sa Philippines?  Any chance they'll market this locally?

if the local wd distro carries it (as i think they will), we should have it.  when we get it, you should be able to compare.

I have friend from Singapore who sent me an SMS  today.  He said that the shops there have this unit available for about an equivalent price of Php 6K :) not bad for a media player!

If you think about it, many of us keep our media on external drives anyway for easy swapping of files and access.  So it kinda makes sense to plug the external harddrive to the player rather than attach a harddrive internally to a NMT.  Also using an external harddrive has its benefits like less heat on the player and the ability to use eSATA external drives for faster file transfers :)

So I guess if you want a simple no frills (no network features) player, this might be a good choice.

Did they say how much it would cost?  I'm almost tempted to place an order at Best Buy because I read somewhere that the sale price ($99) is only upto sunday, but then again, I'm sure this is one product that the authorized distributor (axisglobal) will most likely market locally.  The only question is when and how much.  This may even end up to be cheaper here (WD My Passport Essential 320 GB is P5,500 locally while at amazon it's $118)

After deleting unwanted FILES on the 1TB(WD My Book)..loading time is down to less than 2 mins.

read in the amazon reviews that this is the case with this player.

After the loading and cache.. it creates a folder named WD TV on the ext hdd..making less loading time.
