Now available in SG @ 199sgd (6k php).

Looks like its only a player and not considered NMT since dont connect to network.

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=572

For those using this already, can the firmware be upgraded? if not, then it has limited
file audio/video playback capability.

shipping weight based on amazon is 3 pounds, lagay na natin 5 pounds para sure, so if you order sa amazon then have it shipped through johnny air cost would be:

118$ + 30$ (5 lbs x 6$/lb) + 5$ (handling fee) = 153$ x 49.5 = $7573.50  ;D

bought one at the Bestbuy palo alto branch for my bro a few days after they posted it on their website.  they only had 1 on stock.

pros: as  mentioned in the Maddhat review  it plays .m2ts files (Blu-ray backups) without breaking a sweat.
pq is much better than my old philips divx player . although videos seem a bit dark, for my taste....

some of the issues:

"Sometimes the video won’t completely fill the screen at first. It’s easily fixed by zooming in, then back out. But for some reason, the decoder just doesn’t scale the video properly. This doesn’t happen always. It seems to happen completely randomly. Once I zoomed in and out to fix it, it would play properly for the rest of the file. This issue is pretty annoying, and hopefully it can be fixed."

...."Finally, I wish this device could switch the output resolution to the currently playing file’s native resolution. If I’m playing a 1080p file, output 1080p. If 1080i, output 1080i and let my TV do the deinterlacing (the chip inside of the player, while not terrible, does not do a great job). If 720p, output 720p, and so on… you get the point."

i suggest you read through the comments @engadget http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/01/western-digital-quietly-intros-wd-tv-hd-media-player/#comments and avsforum http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1080840

Picture quality is good on my 1080p television, and the menus and interfaces are simple to use -- but not fancy.

The player lets you search for a specific file by name, or browse your files by type (music, pictures, video). Within a type, it is possible to have it show all the available files or just the most recent. Forward and reverse scan within a video file is possible at 2x, 4x, 8x, or 16x speed. It's not particularly fancy, but it does mostly seem to work well and it is certainly functional.

For the price, I am certainly satisfied. ;D ;D

Mine is definitely going back to the store.  Got it from Buy.com and got it last Saturday.  For a day, it was working fine.  Yesterday, the remote control started to act weird.  Sometimes, nothing happens when I press the remote.  On other times, pressing any of the D-pad buttons to navigate the menu would cause the remote to fire continuously  making it impossible for me to navigate the menu properly.  It will make me overshoot my target.  Tried replacing the remote's batteries and it's still the same.

During the first day that it was working, I was impressed.  For the price, I thought it was a good buy.  My only complaint is the speed of the scan function.  For me, 16X is a bit slow.  Probably, I'm just used to the scan speed of the PS3 (120x max).  Anyway, my brother-in-law will be returning to the US on Friday, and so will my WD media player.

hopefully WD gets to address that problem. baka sa next na mga release nila eh na correct na ang problem na yan.

Ok sana siya if only I didn't get a lemon.  Again, for the price, it's hard to beat.  I just don't know if the scan speed can be increased by a firmware upgrade.  I wish it could go as fast as the PS3.

Can you ask your friend which shops in particular?

I'll ask, he's coming here to the Philippines on December 20.  Last we spoke it's 189 SGD (about Php 6,237.00?) so my officemate decided to order one so we can test it here.  I wanted to get one for myself, but having gotten myself a popcorn hour A-110 it would be a waste really hehehe!

Anyway they did test it over there and so far they said that the performance was good.  It's much smaller than it looks, even smaller than a WD My Book, which is kinda neat.  I'm just a little bit wary of the firmware support but I think with WD coming late to the market they might have fixed most of the early bugs encountered by other Sigmatek based media players :)
