DVD commentaries on Filipino films
« on: Nov 26, 2008 at 12:52 AM »
One thing I noticed that most Pinoy movies on DVD's are very barebones. Hindi uso ang 2-disc special editions dito, hindi gaya sa States. The most they usually have is a behind-the-scenes featurette, trailer, photo gallery and music video of the theme song (if there is a theme song). There's usually no audio commentary.

I only know of one Filipino movie on DVD with an audio commentary and that is Pinoy Blonde (anyone listened to it?) with Peque Gallaga. Any others?

Oh and which Filipino directors or screenwriters (or critics or actors) would you most want to hear give a commentary and which film would you most want them to give a commentary to? I'd love for Ricky Lee to give a commentary on Himala. I should bring it up next time I talk to him.

Among the locally pressed discs that I own, Gamitan and Sigaw have commentary tracks.

Among my Pinoy R1s, American Adobo, Cavite and The Debut have commentary tracks.

There was an excellent docu on HIMALA titled Reminiscing HIMALA but Star Home Video was not able to include it on the dvd release. A rare chance to see Bernal also at work in the film. If Ricky Lee would put his commentary on some of the films that he wrote that would be great also.

Peque would love to put his commentary on the dvd of ORO PLATA MATA too bad he was not informed of the dvd release.

at the meantime, let's not a expect a star cinema release to have audio commentaries.  they don't even remaster the films before putting them on dvd, much so add commentaries. even deleted scenes seem to be expensive for them to add.
Absolutely no regrets!

I wish they would re-release the "Bagets" DVD with a commentary by some or all of the principal actors and/or director. It would be fun to listen to them talk about things that happened behind the scenes or reminisce about that time etc.
