HT Furniture
« on: Mar 09, 2009 at 09:36 PM »
I upgraded my TV stand and sofa.

Mas maganda kung may isang thread for HT furniture such as chairs, sofas, recliners, TV stands, equipment racks, speaker stands, speaker wall mounts, etc., para mas convenient.

My new TV stand is custom-made wood, pinagawa sa suking anluwagi, naka-install na.

Yung new sofa ko ay 3-seater recliner (imitation lang na La-Z-Boy), pero end of the month pa ang delivery.

TV stand:

Materials - Ordinary wood lang, tanguili from regular lumber shop.

Construction - No nails.  Just glue, screws, and mortise & tenon joints:

Very time-consuming but avoids putty marks and split wood.

To avoid nail marks on top, the table top is attached from underneath with pocket screws; no glue, for expansion/contraction allowance.

Finish - Oil wood stain coloring, shellac, sanding sealer, polyurethane varnish, then top coat with ordinary flat varnish.

Sir, join ako dito sa thread mo ... i had my AV rack upgraded a few months ago ... it was also custom-made following Bello design and specs ... the only difference with the Bello design is that mine used a wooden top, the Bello design used a black tampered glass on top ... here's the picture -

and here's the design and model that was made as reference -

the price was PhP 12k ... my reason for choosing this design is that i wanted a wider AV rack that can accommodate three AV components on one shelf and the center speaker on the other shelf, plus some additional room for future AV component or other stuff (display items)

Ayos, a!  Ganyan ang dimensions na kailangan ko.

For me, the stand must be wider than the TV kung flat panel.  If the rack is narrower than the TV or just as wide as the TV, it does not look good.

(... Gagawin ko lang sigurong antique ang finish ... )

hirap nga sir maghanap ng wide rack sa mga ready made furniture, yung mga nakikita ko na available sobrang mahal na (more than 20k) ... kaya naisipan ko na lang magpa-custom-made ... buti na lang at magaling yung furnture shop na malapit sa amin ... btw, that's a 42pv8 on the picture, kahit 50-inch pwede pa rin yung AV rack

yeah ready mades are darn expensive, i asked a nearby aluminum/glass shop here and was informed that 3/4 thick glass is really not that expensive.

I tried those store bought A/V racks myself but somehow has compromises - kulang sa width or kulang sa haba, mataas or mababa, etc. If you add considerations like wiring, air circulation and future expansion, more often than not talagang kukulangin. Unless you really go for those expensive racks out there and have money to burn, then a DIY route will trully get what you want at a fraction of the cost.

MY considerations for making the rack below was to make it as simple as possible - no sides so it looks like the shelves are bolted to the wall with air circulation that could pass thru both sides.  Enough width space for cabling the components and atleast the length to carry 3 components per level adequately without bumping other gears.
My last consideration was to be able to move the whole rack within a minute to do future component cabling w/o fear of the plasma toppling down - thus the plasma is not connected to the rack at all.

here's mine...  DIY ;D  Sabre inspired TV rack (well, i did have a guy make the metal frame and lcd mounting spine, and another guy add the wooden base boards and finish with epoxy and latex paint)

Also my DIY foam and leatherette-bound Zen style bed with orthopedic Uratex foam mattress ;D

I'll try to come up with an internet-friendly diagram of these two ...

Sorry for the wires, havn't had time to hide them  ???

Nice and very functional rack design Raptor.  Judging from the picture, hanggang 65V kasya yan.  Just test the weight capacity by sleeping on the rack for a night - both of us are about as heavy as the 65V   ;D    But the first thing that came to my mind was dual 42 inch side by side.

Make sure it's tempered glass.  All of them can provide tempered glass, usually on order basis.  Konti lang yata ang price difference.

Regular glass is very dangerous.

Actually I purchased this ready-made from A/V store, but shelves space not enoughed to accomodate my gears.

So DIY wood shelves solved my problem.

Yung luma, parang pinilit lang pagkasyahin.  Yung bago, mas bagay.

Sorry sir, matagal pa ang delivery nito, end of the month pa siguro (see my first post above).

Komportable talaga kasi. :P

May nakita akong generic, dark brown leather 3-seater recliner, P60K lang.  Maganda naman.  Comfort is exactly like the orig.  The look naman, pareho lang ng orig.  At yung orig, pag leather, ay more than P100K yata ang presyo (sobra naman yon... ano, mas mahal pa sa plasma TV?  :P)

====================================

As for the orig La-Z-Boy in the States, it seems that the quality of the new ones are not as good as those made around 5 or more years ago.

Sample comment:

We have owned a La-z-boy recliner since 2001, and have been fairly happy with it, so in 2005 we bought a La-z-boy sofa and chair and a half. Within about 6 months, the side of the sofa that we sit on the most started sagging, The back cushion is now significantly lower than the other side of the sofa. The worst part is that the leather is actually wearing off! It is awful. It looks like that part of the sofa has been abused or soemthing, but it most definitely has not! I complained to teh store where we purchased it one year and two months after we bought it. The manager told me that the sofa was definitley defective. However, after 6 months of being put off, he finally told me that La-Z-Boy would not do anything about it, because the leather finish only has a 1 year warranty! I know it is not my family’s fault, as we have a leather La-Z-Boy recliner sitting within 4 feet of the sofa, and the same people sit in it, except it is the seat that someone is always sitting in! We have another sofa and loveseat (cloth) purchased in 2001 that is in pristine condition. And, in my rec room, I have a 21 year old sofa in excellent condition! It is La-Z-Boy’s fault, and tey do not care as they would not even answer us for 6 months! I will NEVER EVER purchase another La_Z-Boy product!!!
