MObO with component video out
« on: Sep 28, 2009 at 03:52 PM »
Is there a motherboard/graphic cards that supports component (RGB) video out? If none what can you suggest to connect the pc to my TV? I tried to use the S-video but it does not give a quality picture compared to a component (RGB).

My PC have the ff video output:
     DVi
     VGA
     S-Video (Not preferred)

For the theTV it has component video in, RCA Compaosite and S-Video.

Thanks.

What exactly is your graphics card?   I have an ATI HD3870 and HD4850 that support high def output through that port that looks like S-Video.  Basically, such high def support via the TV-out (S-Video) extends down to their entry level new cards.  The S-Video to Component Video dongle came with the ATI cards (Sapphire brand).   I have no problems getting 720p via that connection.  In fact, I can even set the HD CRT to much higher resolution via ATI's CCC as long as I dont mind the overscan.

Actually I'm still deciding between htpc or NMT. I like to build an HTPC but I'm wondering if I could connect the unit with my TV (CRT) without any video converter. If as you say with your graphic card that it supports component video or HD then I will opt to build an htpc. I have a current graphic card with my pc inno3d 7200 series but when I try it to connect with my tv via scable to rca, the picture quality is not good compared with connceting dvd player via component video.

Thanks for the info.

You can use this.

VGA-Component video cable

I used one before connecting my DVD player with component video to the VGA of my PJ.  It worked well.

Bought it from Meridian-Audio (one of our members here in pinoydvd). Hope this helps.  ;)
