Black Hawk Down

One of those films that I passed on during it's initial release. We all have preconceived notions on certain films & mine was like, this ain't no Platoon or Saving Private Ryan. Although not a classic, it's no slouch either.

Basic Instinct 2

Finally found time to watch this.  I was really hesitant at first.  As it turned out, I should not have watched this, if only to preserve Sharon Stone's original classic thriller Basic Instinct.  This one's a real clunker.  I should not have even considered buying this dvd.  Yuck.

Ang T-Bird at Ako

Bought this on sale at only P99.  Na curious lang ako on this Nora-Vilma movie.  I tried playing it to check on a few scenes at walang planong panoorin kagabi.  Surprise!  Mula opening scene, I got hooked and finished till about 1am. Pacing is fast.  Dialogues are crisp and witty. Some fine acting from Ate Guy and Gov. Vi.  The best performances, for me, came from Tommy Abuel, Odette Khan & (the late) Dindo Fernando.  DVD is a single layer and in fullscreen though.   For only P99, this one's a real treasure.

Say Anything

Despite my being an 80s pop culture fanatic, I've never seen this film before, and this DVD has been sitting on my shelf for years. I saw an article about the film's 20th anniversary in EW about two weeks ago, so I decided to give it a shot.

Total chick flick, and unlike other films from the era, it feels very dated, at least to me. I can't see teenagers relating to it in this present day.

Charlie & the Chocolate Factory

-maybe this is the 3rd time I've watched this but I still enjoy it everytime.  The visual effects and vibrant colors can keep your toddler glued to the screen of your HDTV.  I like this version better than the original Willy Wonka maybe because of the more advanced special effects and better video quality not to mention Johnny Depp and Freddie Highmore's exemplary performances.  ;)

Boondock Saints - critics are divided on this one and the film thrives on a small but loyal fan base. I choose to remain neutral since it's an enjoyable film, just not quite sure if i'd want to watch it again. Think Guy Ritchie with a religious twist to it.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

-The movie was geared mostly on producing such amazing special effects without much emphasis on the story. It's the CGI that kept me glued to the screen. The robot fight scenes were just stupendous. Megan Fox concentrated more on looking seductive rather a heroine to save the day.  Surround sound was great and I enjoyed every minute of it.    Trully a popcorn movie that will give your HT a workout. What do you expect....it's a Michael Bay movie.  ;)

Romy & Michele's High School Reunion

-Some people who try to be somebody else in a reunion might relate to this movie. One thing I've learned is just to be yourself and not acting somebody you're not.  Great 80's music soundtrack.  Good thing Kudrow who perfected acting dumb and Sorvino who's good at acting smart starred in this movie. They are just hilarious together.  ;D

Coraline

-The characters in that other perfect world who had buttons as their eyes which was really disturbing.  I thought my 6 year old daughter would be spooked out but she liked it. Maybe she can relate with Coraline who has parents glued to their PCs.  ;D The stop motion animation was distracting and would make you think there is something wrong with your player or the DVD. The movie had the same director Henry Selick who did "The Nightmare Before Christmas" so you'll know what to expect. The DVD comes with a 3D version but personally I'd stick to the classic 2D.

Romy & Michele's High School Reunion

I can't believe the 2005 prequel to this, Romy and Michele: In The Beginning, still hasn't seen a DVD release, particularly since it stars Katherine Heigl as Romy. You'd think the producers would want to cash in on her post-Grey's Anatomy success, as well as on the first film's cult status.

Bordertown

A true story about crimes committed against women laborers in Mexico.  Stars a blonde and quite chubby Jennifer Lopez.  My, did she shoot this after giving birth?  When she runs around, her bulges were bouncing here.  Also stars Antonio Banderas with a funny looking hairdo and Martin Sheen as JLo's boss.  The script was okay but pretty loose and the movie kinda lost steam in the second half.

Watched the C-Interactive dvd9 version and was very impressed with the PQ.  It was definitely hi-def and crisp.  One of the best I've seen in DVD.  Bitrate here might be hovering between 8 to 9mpbs.
