LED Behind the LCD: Understanding LED-Backlit HDTVs

Quote
For home theater enthusiasts, LEDs only matter for one reason: image quality. Because fluorescent tubes must light the entire screen evenly, designers have no way to vary the backlighting intensity in different parts of the screen. Even if you want to show a single white pixel on an all-black screen, the light needs to be blazing away in back. But with some LED setups, lighting different parts of the screen separately becomes possible, allowing the lighting to actually improve the image.

uhm actually nag markdown na ng prices, yung series 7 nila na 40" wala na sa 100k, but that is on SnS, and the last markdown of prices is nitong pagpasok ng September.... Still holding my breath if ever magbaba ng prices ngaun dahil alam naman natin na tapos na ang undas... next big event is Christmas na!

When I went to Manila last week,
I passed by Mall of Asia, visited the SM Appliance Center,
and on display were a pair of Samsung LEDs, the 46B6000 and the 46B7000,
both were playing "according to the salesman", just plain ol' bluray...

The pictures were really sharp and the colors were spectacular,
but one thing I notice from these TVs, it seems I was watching a live telenovela
on a clear window, its like I was in front of the camera. It has lost that cinematic touch
that we have learn to appreciate all those years...

Well, I guess sooner or later, it will all come to that...

For 100K on any of those units, well, I would if I had the extra dough...

I simply love the VERY THIN design...

Cheers,
ABC

My GF's father bought three Samsung LEDs  :o I tested out my The Dark Knight Blu-Ray on one of them.

It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen...  :'( Especially the IMAX scenes  :'( :'( :'(

@ayosbathere, iwas thinking of the sharp because it has a full array rather than the edge lit samsung, do you have more info on the sharp LED? and where its available locally??

i'd go for an LG LH90 series... local dimming yung LED backlight nya, not as thin as samsung's edge lit LED backlight but way better black levels... i wished they had that here in the philippines... the 47 inch one went on sale in the US for 1200 dollars... sayang...

8500 series ata local dimming model ng Samsung, pero di ko pa nakita locally (wala din sa local Sammy website).

Pero agree ako, ang laki ng effect ng processing sa Series 7/7000. Very sharp picture and fluid motion, pero parang nabubura yung grain (unless naka noise reduction yung nakita kong display) so some might like it, others would not.
