speakers somewhat raspy
« on: Feb 06, 2010 at 10:52 PM »
Recently bought Denon AVR 790.  At first, I was using satellite speakers from a pioneer htib.  Just bought wharfedale 10.2 today.

When I tried playing music in my egreat (flac), the sound came out somewhat raspy. When I used my original satellite speakers, same raspy sound.  Now, I dont know what I may have done wrong. Settings of the AVR probably? Speaker wires (ordinary guage 16 from hardware)? I am not using any sub by the way.

if the Denon and Sat combi sound were fine and raspy sound only came out when you connected new speakers. But the raspy sound remains even  when you put backed the sat speaker? Have you tested the new speakers with other amp? if not, try to do so or bring back to the store for testing cuz it's possible that units have problems eve if they BN. If the speakers have problems, have your amp check also it might got damaged by the speakers. another precautions, have your amp check before connecting any speakers, just to be sure... HIH..  ;D

It seems that my egreat is not playing flac that well. Played movies and it was ok. Popped in an audio cd in my dvd player and it sounded great.  Thanks for the input!

if you are sending digital signal to Denon seems it can't decode flac format. try to use analog connection so the media player will do the decoding...  ;D
