Nhoooh! That's Jorja FoX? :o :)

Anyway, back to David and CSI:Miami...so how's the preview so far, are they also thinking and saying what we're saying ---- that it's not gonna compare to the original CSI? Cast not at par? Violent reactions?

From the site: When you know that your favorite program has reached its peak. The instant that you know from now on...it's downhill. Some call it the climax. We call it jumping the shark.

    Their comments:

You have to figure that a Friday 9pm slot will bury it, but this cop drama has William Petersen, Las Vegas, and some great quirky characters going for it.  Folks into DNA details will love this show.

What a great idea for a series. Theoretically, a potential reincarnation of some of the "Columbo" smarts of television. But what a quick shark jump. Definitely jumped in its debut. All that promise. Absolutely no delivery.

Shouldn't judge a show by it's pilot, as odd as that sounds. Too much time spent introducing characters to do much with the story. I think it's a great show, a good mix of science, mystery, intrigue, character drama, etc.

This show hasn't been on very long but I LOVE it. I have already seen William Peterson in Las Vegas, twice. I think that people need to give it a chance.

THIS IS MY ABSOLUTE MOST FAVORITE NEW SHOW!! I caught it by chance one Friday night and have been hooked ever since! Excellent creativity and delivery with the show's writers! Keep it coming!!

Maybe you guys weren't watching this great show....it is on THURSDAY'S at 9 pm...and has never been on Fridays....maybe you need a DNA check on your family history (it originally premiered on a Friday)

I wish that when a network creates a good premise as this would stick to the story and not delve in the whinny problems of the characters. Homicide has been the only show that stuck to the title and the characters problems were a side story. Also some of the test they are running have already been done by other experts and the results are well known. I must be one of the few that watch the real thing like Forensic Files, New Detectives, FBI files. This show is not for me.

The show is awesome! I love shows which have the scientists as the good guys. The black guy with the gambling addiction and a job that sends him to a casino every few weeks, is a nice touch.

OK, don't get me wrong. I'm voting for "Never Jumped." However, I see some potential jumps looming, and I hope the show can avoid the pitfalls. First, there's been *slightly* too much heard from the characters' personal lives. They should stick to the procedural, like Law & Order, giving us the occasional hint about their personal lives, leaving us wanting to know more about them. Also, and this is a BIGGIE, they need to stop moralizing. Grissom's always telling them to be objective, but then he ends up spouting bullcrap at the end. There was the episode rerun a couple weeks ago where the guy on the plane was killed in SELF-DEFENSE by the other passengers. Grissom tells us that they should have dealt with the psycho by asking him if he was all right and how they could help, because all he needed was a little understanding. PLEASE! Then there was the one where the two lesbians killed the guy who was going to rat on them, and the CSIs decided it was okay that they killed him, because after all he was a homophobe.

EXCUSE ME? Then, the most ridiculous episode of all involves a deaf kid who gets killed by a couple punks who want him to buy beer for them. It starts out with the head of the deaf school being a complete BITCH to the CSIs, but Grissom thinks it's ok to be an idiot if you have a disability (boy, if I were deaf, I think that would have really pissed me off.) Then after finding out what really happened, Grissom and the deaf bitch concluded that "they killed him just because he was different." WHAT? They killed him because he didn't buy beer for them! It wasn't like a couple bigots decided it would be fun to go out and kill a deaf guy. They were just jerks, plain and simple. Anyway, all these silly little conclusions they reach mar an otherwise great show. I wish TV shows would realize that they don't always have to have a message, and even if they have one, the average viewer is smart enough not to need to be hit over the head with it to get it. How's this for a message? Murder is wrong. Let's catch the people who commit it and send them away. That's all the message a crime-scene procedural needs. Oh, and they also need to get rid of this clashing-with-authority thing. People get enough inter-office politics at their jobs, they're not going to want to watch it on TV when they get home.

I LOVED this show from day one. I have always been a fan of law and order so this was more or less right up my alley. The cast is great and I like the fact that i have not seen any of them before this show. I hope the next season is as good as the first and i can not wait to see some new episodes.

I really enjoy this show, and I don't consider this to be a jump, but it bothers me nonetheless. On several occasions the coroner has been seen shaving the heads of the cadavers. On one show, crucial evidence was found as a result. As a former mortician, I can tell you that the heads of the deceased are never shaved. Can you imagine going to see dear old mom at the funeral home and finding Telly Savallas instead? This is a form of mutilation. Maybe I'm picky, but these thing jump out at me.

First episode. Total crap. Tommy models with clean fingernails, solving multiple-related murders, always without ever needing any live witnesses, but needing fancy computers everywhere to show ten-cent visual presentations. Completely lame.

Hasn't jumped yet, but they're on the edge. The moralizing is a bit much, but I like the unhappy endings.
This show is REAL must see TV.

This show has to follow up survivor. As hard as it sounds this show pulls it off! I love this show. This show is as clever and creative as Macgyver was.
I've just picked up the show in reruns, here in the second season, but I've been hooked! I do have some problems with the show: Baywatch-esque scientists, impersonating police officers (do CSI's REALLY inform the next of kin?) and my biggest pet-peeve - the gross-out "weapon entering the body" shots. Blech. Overall, though, I really like the characters, and the forensics experiments are neat! I've basically just had to suspend disbelief with some aspects, and then I can sit back and enjoy the show.

This show is amazing. Somehow the Clark County Crime Lab has no need whatsoever for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police. Don't ANY of the murders being investigated also have POLICE investigating them? "Gee, we have a dead body here to autopsy--let's go to the crime scene and do our own investigation." Give me a break.

This show never jumped...for a few years I've wanted to work in forensics, so this show is REALLY interesting to me :) I love it. My only problem with it is that the CSI's have far too much contact with the family's and whatnot involved in the cases. In real life, investigators don't get as tied up with outsiders, it's more fact oriented. But I must say this show has some really great ideas. Oh, and the "nerdy" lab boy, the one you barely get to see, Eric Szmanda (spelling?) is SO hot.
This is currently my favorite show. I love the forensics part of it, but disagree that they involve the characters personal lives too much; I think it's just, enough of a teaser. I agree, too much moralizing, and the CSI's come off as to much like cops (they carry guns!?) But hey IT'S JUST TV!!
The comments are kinda long and funny, if you want to read it all just go to the site: www.jumptheshark.com click on A to Z and then C for CSI (of course!) and read it from there. :)

They have ALL the TV shows you watch (US & Brit I think), and yes, Buffy The Vampire Slayer is there also (hehe ;D)...

Actually, I feel that CSI is not delivering the same oomph that they did the first time around.. I'm no longer glued to my seat as I used to.

like the episode last week..  ;D I actually got up to get a bottle of water during one of Grissom's speeches..  ;D

hey was just watching part 1 of the finale and they got to introduce CSI miami!  ;D

some thoughts (a warning though, i wasn't able to get all their names):

Horatio whatshisname a.k.a H (david caruso) - i was sorta right, he's a cross between brass and grissom. I just don't get the smart vibe from him yet. I didn't like the way they put a similar grissom quirk into his character ( i.e. weak spot for crimes involving kids). I like the fact that he's more an aggressive take charge kinda guy than grissom.

Latina coroner/pathologist chick: Am i the only one who found it wierd when she started talking to the dead body while she was looking for evidence? She does look more interesting than las vegas coroner guy though.

Blond, southern chick with an accent:  Found it cool when she started speaking in spanish. Can't take the southern accent though. maybe it'll grow on me. I stilll believe that her past as a miami dolphins cheerleader or a past homecoming queen will be revealed some time in the series.  ;D

Latino Scuba diving guy: I think he's the Nick of the group. He already had the wise cracks down.

Speed a.k.a Tim Speedle?: he's my new favorite character in CSI miami. he strikes me as a mix of warrick and sara. I found it wierd though that the Miami people seemed to show their guns alot more than the las vegas people.

*Their lab was waaaay more high tech than the las vegas crew or at least it looked to me that way.

* looks like we'll be seeing lots of bodies fished out of the glades.

SOme thoughts on the second case:

I wish i could do in photoshop what they did for the dead girl. I'd look like a supermodel too!  ;D

The crap in the bag was just too gross.  :P

As usual, I agree with most of your points (big surprise there, huh?). I thought I was the only one who was immediately put off by hot blonde chick's Southern accent.

I completely forgot it until I started watching the DVDs, but do you remember the original coroner on CSI (Las Vegas) was also an African American woman? I wonder what happened to her. Well, they cast another African American as the coroner in this new one... typecasting? BTW, if she looks familiar, she was the black girl on NEWSRADIO.

Scuba guy was Isabel's husband on ROSWELL.

I know they also added Kim Delaney to the cast, so with Caruso, that makes two NYPD BLUE alumni. Who are the two WEST WING alumni? What is this, a show for people who made wrong career decisions in a past life? ;)

well, jorja fox used to be the bodyguard of the presidents daughter. She was gone after the first season though. Don't forget that she was also on ER. She disappeared from that one too without a big send-off.

I'm still gonna watch CSI miami. I'm a big sucker for whodunnits.

BTW,the guy who played tim speedle also played dante in  "The Last Don".  ;D

finished watching it today and was kinda disappointed with the cliffhanger... more dramatic than riveting... but effective nonetheless.  ;D

yup... all the cast of CSI: Miami are familar faces to me too...

of course there's david caruso....

and the blond "southern" chick with the camera... she's the S&M girl from "Body Shots"... you know the one with brad rowe and sean patrick flannery.

the short haired guy... anyone remember him from "empire records"? no one seems to have mentioned him so far.

the black girl... yup. from newsradio and a small role on there's something about mary.

and yes there's the guy who plays isabel's husband in roswell.

not a bad cast... full of underrated actors... kinda like the first CSI, when it started. eh? ;D

His name is Horatio Kane - ick! I'd take Gil Grissom anytime, though "H" seems more passionate (and emotional) than Gil.

She also played the hated (by me) Ainsley Hayes on The West Wing.

Really liked the Miami cast otherwise, though. And the last episode was nice - a puzzler more than a crime whatever chuva. Plus hey - Grissom's going deaf!

Watching CSI 2 hours straight (well, 1 1/2 actually) during "siesta" time, made me feel sleepy...I didn't get to watch the cliffhanger (Grissom's going deaf?), I took a catnap :-\ I'll probably catch it on Sunday na lang.

Of the Miami cast, the only persons familiar to me were Horacio Kane, the blonde who spoke Espanol (wasn't she in Baywatch also? Or a show similar to Baywatch?) and the coroner.  The best line spoken in that episode for me was when Kane said "They fought like heroes for you..." to the little girl. I got all misty. ::) ;D

Last week, Katherine and Warrick had little scenes, remember? This week  Petersen, Fox and Eads had little scenes. So while they were probably shooting last week's eppy (with the 3), they were also shooting the Miami eppy (with Warrick and Katherine)....

Having just watched half of Season One again on DVD, I've figured out the main difference between these two seasons:

Season Two did away with the personal aspects of the characters, as well was with plotlines extraneous to the crimes featured for the night.

Season One had Catherine and her child custody issues with her ex, Nick and his hooker, Warrick and his gambling problem/corrupt judge subplot, and Grissom with his romance with "face lady", his rivalry with the daytime CSI team's chief and his professional problems with the sheriff and the mayor.

There were no such storylines in Season Two, just a few short references to Warrick's gambling problem. Catherine suddenly looked like she had no family, and Grissom completely became a eunuch with no rivals/enemies. Even their continuing serial killer plotline which started with the show's pilot was abruptly ended this season.

As a result, the show is more like classical action TV shows: episodic, without the continuing subplots (the "soap opera element') that keeps a lot of viewers hooked to other current shows.

And judging from their ratings - it worked for them!

Nice observation, Mr. Hankey! I didn't notice that until I read your post. However, there was that one time in S2 that Sara threatened to leave and Gil sent her a plant - that should count, don't you think?  :D

Personally, I wish they do inject some personal aspects to the series. I wish Grissom would hook up with either Catherine or Sara but hey, as you said, their formula for season 2 worked so I guess we could expect the same for season 3.  :(

I remember that. There was also this episode on Sarah and Greg going on a lunch/date and the episode where Sarah identified with the victim (the one with no life outside the internet ba yun....yung walang circle of friends...???)  These are probably all in one episode. :-\ Kalimutan ko na...And it all touched on Sarah's personal life in some ways.

Yes, as far as featuring Sara in these subplots goes - I think it's compensation, since she's the one who had NO subplots (at least none I could remember) from Season One.

QUIZ: Which CSI Character Are You?
I was wondering whether this belonged here or in the Small Talk section, but I think it'll only be of interest to those who watch the show, so I decided to centralize the CSI related threads here:

Which CSI Character Are You?

Outgoing and with a sense of humor, you entertain others as easily as you entertain yourself. Always one that likes to make a "presentation," you bring a lot of enthusiasm to everything you do--work or play. You're extremely intelligent, but that's not the first thing that people notice about you; that honor belongs to your idiosyncratic charm. While sometimes your practiced individuality tends to make you strike out in the love department, that doesn't keep you from trying. Instead of conforming to looks and trends, you strive to create some of your own. Bright, fun, and ambitious--you are Greg Sanders.

Your color is BLUE.

"Blue personalities are creative and the most artistic of all of the colors. Imagination is your name. You love your mind and strive to express it freely. You want to reach the stars and to bring them down to form. Art, music and literature stimulate you. When motivated to solve a problem, you have a strong creative sense of insight, as well as practicality. Blue people tend to be trustworthy, reliable and honest. Others feel comfortable in your presence as you project and generate a non-threatening, serene, secure energy."

Click here to take the quiz.

Charming, altruistic, and straightforward, you tend to be everybody's friend. As a people person, you often put others' needs above your own. While some people might feel they're in danger of being used, you only seek to be more useful. You're down to earth, so your intelligence and dedication when it comes to your profession might come as a bit of a surprise to people. Sometimes your zeal and enthusiasm when it comes to life can work to your benefit, sometimes it doesn't, but you tend to live by the creedo "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." Possessing a strong sense of what's right, you'll avidly defend your views. Laid back and friendly, you can be quick to temper when confronted with something that challenges your need for structure. Your physical appearance doesn't seem to be a focus, but you keep up with the trends and avoid sloppiness. You don't seem to apply that same need for order to relationships, however. You follow your heart, not your brain when it comes to other people and that's no different when looking for a love interest. Your ethical code applies to all aspects of your life. Approachable, trustworthy, and dependable--you are Nick Stokes.

Your color is ORANGE.
"Orange personalities reveal high energy and are often restless. Your competence and capabilities to organize are unmatched by any other color. You flow straight as an arrow when focused and like the sun at dawn, you give purpose to all who know you. You are very conscious of design, form and structure. No messy offices or homes for you."

I knew it! I'm a Sara-type!!! ::)

Confident at work but self-conscious outside your job, you've always tried to connect with others while wondering why they can't connect with you. While you can lay a smackdown with the best of them, you also possess an empathetic streak that is both a strength and a weakness in your line of work. Despite your nonchalance regarding your own appearance, your brain and inner beauty seems to attract the opposite sex in droves. You tend to be goal oriented and focused on details--both of which seems to manifest in both your personal and professional lives. Quick with a comeback, your sense of humor is both an asset and a weapon. You are Sara Sidle.

Your color is RED.
"Red personalities are dynamic and direct but also generous. They are strong in character and love to be active and competitive. You are solid in knowing what you want and usually win. You have strength, courage, and conviction of your rights, as well as wanting equal justice for all.

I'm Warrick?

Not the most open of books, you might be best characterized by the adage "still waters run deep." You're a great student of people while not divulging much about yourself. It's not for lack of having a story to tell; your insight just lends itself more to observing others. You learn best this way. Tending to find comfort in routine, you find yourself trying to channel your addictive personality into your job or relationships. When it comes to style, your wardrobe is as inscrutable as your personality. You seem comfortable in everything from formal wear to swim wear. Always on the lookout for the right person, you're very conscious of the pitfalls that come with commitment. That said, you tend to avoid easy hook-ups. A good listener, you earn respect despite being very open about your flaws. Unflappable, vulnerable, and perceptive--you are Warrick Brown.

Your color is PURPLE.
"Purple personalities bring sparkling youthfulness, imagination and fresh ideas to most situations. You usually project a calm and cool exterior and are capable of dealing with demanding events. You have attitude which allows you to 'take it in your stride' and you tend not to panic easily, and act with clarity. Your contemporary acceptance of today's' color world enables you to give faith to others. Some seek you for enlightenment, others for practical insight; for whoever seeks you, you offer inner calmness. purple people relate well to the 'idea' world and anything that is innovative."

i took the quiz four times and ended up as nick only once. the rest of the time my changed answers still came up with warrick.

and here i thought i thought i was gonna be greg.  ;D

Took the quiz thrice. Got Sara twice and Gil once. Yikes! And I was SO angling for Catherine! I may not be an ex-stripper turned CSI, but I was an ex-... um... rentboy turned medical student, which really should count for something. And I'd be a really great dominatrix too! (Jeez, I can't believe I said all this stuff in a public forum, hope my mom never reads it).
