I'M NOT a front projector authority by any means, but let me share to you my thoughts. This BenQ has no distinctive merits going for it except that its a unit thats bound to astound a FIRST TIME user. For first timers this is already a good model, but never exceptional. Why not add P15,000 more for your budget threshold and grab the INFOCUS IN76. This much-touted, highly-praised 720p unit is a DLP classic, shaped like a "black flying saucer" and factory-calibrated - is being availed for P65,000 by AVSHOP here. I believed this price is still negotiable. I could vouch for the IN76 because it is among the Infocus IN-- line-up which includes three units, each featuring the three Darkchip models: IN72 with DC1, IN76 with DC2 and IN78 with DC3. The best of these 720p units is undoubtly the IN78 because it has the highest native Contrast of around 3,800 CR and sports the black-level superiority of the Darkchip 3. The CR rate of 3,800 may looked low but remember that when you ascribed a CR like that to a DLP, thats already impressive. And the proof of the resolution pudding is in the watching. Whether you take IN76 or IN78 (around P125,000 at the moment), you're bound to be gratified of the giant picture, much much better than BenQ could qualifiably give. Or, take the Panasonic PTX200 which sells between P44,000 to P55,000. Its a high-lumened, 720p bestseller, with razor-sharp picture a notch higher than DLP and very suitable for non-purist budding videophile who're just starting out.

You mean the Infocus or the BenQ? BenQ's are widely available because its mainly a Taiwan brand. Kalat na kalat yan. But your hope of finding a Home Theater-grade model is likely to yield some very thin results. With Infocus, its not so widely sold, medyo specialized. Thats because its import is monopolized by this lecherous company called American Technologies and its sister company who cornered the home theater line. They could imposed their prices, even if unethical in its profit-taking. Remember how much they're selling the DC1 Infocus X10? They availed it here in the site for P149,900. Then five days later, the price was pulled down to P99,000. That reveals they're manipulating the pricing too liberally because they're the sole distributor.

My qualms about BenQ is its manufacturing thrust. It markets the brand mainly as a business presentation projector, secondary na lang ang home cinema lineup, according to their likely line of thinking. Kaya I'd shy away from BenQ and would closely consider other names. Try Mitsubishi, Infocus and Panasonic. Just try getting a projector, and you're bound to looked at films, concerts and cinema as a magical experience. You'll even laughed at paying so much for a puny LCD or a plasma. Pioneer Kuro plasma? By all means, laugh derisively against it, kasi it'll never be able to match a giant screen home theater.

Alice... are you single? I like the way you write. Very... authoritative. :)

Going back to topic

I am looking for the BenQ W1000 because it is said to be $1004 and I would hope that translates to 55,000 pesos. I'm about to order the Optoma HD20 from HK for about 65,000 (inclusive of shipping) and would rather pay a premium here than from abroad.

I'm also looking for the following 1080p front projector alternatives

$999 - Vivitek H1080FD
$1016 - Epson Europe TW980
$1299 - Vivitek H1082FD
$1379 - ViewSonic Pro8100
$1495 - Mitsubishi HC3800
$1495 - Sanyo PLV-1080HD

I'll be primarily using it to display my 21MP photos in 1920x1080 and my 1080p video from my XH-A1 & EOS 5D Mark II.

Single pa po pero spinster na kasi may inaalagaang handicap. As to the models you've cited, para sa akin they're leaps and bounds better than the BenQ W1000. If your essential purpose is evaluating still photos, professionally, or filmed images from your camcorder - then I would choose a DLP model. Mas maganda po talaga ito kaysa sa mga LCD-based PJs. On the other hand, mas versatile ang LCD, in 9 out of 10 models, LCDs offers wider zoom, and brighter lumens. But then again, susceptible naman ang LCD PJs sa alikabok, ito ang talagang potential problem nito; a dust particle embedded on the LCD lens would just add unneccessarily from life's various vexations.

From your lineup, I'd chose between the Mitsubishi HC3800, the Epson and the Viewsonic Pro. But I'd spring for the HC3800 because its a latest, highly-touted model, a qualifiable "value for money" DLP unit. Why not also canvassed from Philip here, his handle is ANYA? He might be able to offer you his expediting capacity for projectors and BD players.

Thank you for the insight Alice

I am only interested with 1080p front projectors. I got a PS3 so BD player is not needed anymore. I'm caping my expenditure to P65,000 for a local purchase as I am about to remit money for a Optoma HD20.
