Listened to the Classe from 8:30pm till 2:30am and I have to agree with you.  Its a very smooth sounding cdp.  

My wife was listening to it as well and she was impressed.

John, Paul, Ringo, George, Harry B., Karen C., Eric C., Frank S., and the LSO seemed to enjoy playing through it was well.

As you can see, it was a pretty exhaustive and lengthy audition.

After the audition, I decided to search on the net for any reviews, which were pretty rare and I found this.  I must say that I totally agree with their comments.

congratulations! at least now you already have 1 candidate...the classe.
listen to 3 to 4 more cdps in the same price class and then pick from there.
the hard part of buying the classe upon initial audition is when you have listened to another cdp and felt that you made a mistake buying the classe.

enjoy auditioning...its the hardest and yet the most enjoyable part of setting up your dream system.

Within this price range, try the Cayin cd players.  Se if you like the sonic character where the output is tubed.

You should try listening with the Cayin cd players with hydrid of SS setups...especially with SS power amps....an you'll get the dynamics and fast pace sound.

The the reason why I shifted from all tubes to hybrid systems. I employed tubes on the preamps in order to get the tube sound into the system and utilized SS power amps to ensure the dynamics and punch are still there.  Overall the system becomes detailed and fast paced yet having the airy sound of tubes.  For me, tubed power amps appears to be slow in response in some music genre.

go for marantz, a better choice than the rotel 1072. also consider cambridge audio 640c and 740c....i have them both....just purchased 740c...excellent players...next project, ROKSAN Kandy k2 cd player. my k2 amp needs it hehehe

try to audition the Roksan Kandy K2 cd player too.
i recommend it to be on your short list.
more pricey but it's worth it.
