Mine is set to "on" per default.

Zooming a picture causes image degradation. If you switch off overscan, you get 1:1 pixel mapping, eliminating picture degradation caused by a slight zoom from overscanning.

A widescreen TV is 16:9, or 1.78:1 (16 divided by 9). However, the aspect ratio of most medium-wide movies is usually 1.85:1; very few of them are 1.78:1.

When you display an image that is wider than 1.78:1 without overscan, you'll get black bars. Since 1.85:1 is slightly wider than 1.78:1, you'll get a thin black bar or bars.

A 1.85:1 image on a 16:9 (1.78:1) TV will still have thin black bars when overscan is off.

I prefer overscanning because I don't want to see those thin black bars on a 1.85:1 image. The zoom is so minimal that I won't notice the image degradation anyway.

Do you also try to fill the screen when watching a content with wider aspect ratio?

No, I never zoom. I want the original aspect ratio. And aside from cropping, the picture quality will be terrible when you zoom a 2.35 image to fill a 16x9 screen.

Kung overscan lang, OK lang yon. Konting konti lang naman ang difference.

In fact, the difference is so slight that most people can't even see what it is that overscan actually does ...

Got mine around the 14th of July this year, and after the review I don't check the I.R anymore

Gamit lang ng gamit. Oh and that TV pala was replaced due to dead pixels.

One thing I observed recently is that it is no longer as sensitive to IR as it was last year. Very good! I can now watch Golf Network (and other channels with huge fixed logo) in their native high resolution aspect ratio without bothering too much about their bright and sharp channel ID. The key is simply to use it regularly and normally as you would any other TV. Such a waste of energy and time to be overly concerned about burn-in stuff - I think.

similar observation, I.R. doesn't seem to be appear as quickly as before. When the TV was new, IR could be seen right away.

Nice to be back to PDVD again. hehe, was kind of busy.

Hi Guys. Its nice to have found others that came to the same decision as myself. I too bought a 42V20. Initially I was on the LCD bandwagon, partially because of the bad rep plasmas have, but after giving the selection a proper consideration, I finally decided on the 42V20. Actually, the cost was above what I was willing to spend. Also, I have a rule about not buying bleeding edge stuff. The 42V20 however easily convinced me to break my rule and reallocate funds with its by far superior value proposition.

I do have a few grips: 1) I never did get the VieraLink to work with the freebie HTIB (upgraded to highest model); 2) the Internet connectivity is rather immature at least for my uses; and 3) the media server is useless with my MKV library. Let me be clear though that even though these features did help me decide to buy it, I still love this TV and recommend it at every opportunity. My kids love it too, so much I had to turn on the Child Lock.

Hi Carlo. Meron nga bang ganitong settings sa PQ? I've totally forgotten because I simply switch between Cinema and Auto.

But what I'm certain is that my V2 will automatically switch to Standby Mode if it doesn't detect any video signal (in all video channels, including TV), but in any case, matipid talaga etong plasma model na eto kahit anong video setting.

Sorry bro but I honestly don't remember these options. What I do to save electricity is to turn the panel off when just listening to music (menu>picture>panel>off), and try to turn on the sleep timer before I fall asleep.

I started using the ARC (Audio Return Channel) feature of the V2 this week. VERY COOL!

Would definitely consume more electricity though.

Is it just me or does the V20 have a maximum limit of only 99 cable channel slots? I'm on Destiny cable having 125 channels or so but I am only able to program up to 99 channels only. I tried manual but cannot go beyond the 99 channel limit.

On the old CRT TV's I would just press automatic and presto! Got all available channels and all correctly mapped. On my older Sharp Aquos LCD, if I do an automatic channel scan, it would scan the channels via their frequencies which gets the channels mixed up and not mapped correctly but I still get ALL channels beyond 99 slots. If I wanted to be more accurate I would channel manually .... a very slow, painful and tedious task but at least I am able to get more than 99 programmed.

On the V20, it is a mystery for me and there is nothing in the manual that says anything about this. I ttried searching the web but to no avail.

Perhaps someone here can help? It is quite frustrating to be having this wonderful and slightly expensive HDTV and be unable to program a simple task such as trying to get all the available channels in?

I think kailangan mo i-reset to factory default (magpa-prompt yung home/demo mode) then may region selector, you need to select north america.. then something something which I forgot. Tanong mo dun sa pinagbilhan ng tv dapat kabisado nila yan. Nalaman ko yan nung nagtanong ako sa Cardinal Audio kasi hindi malinaw yung mga channels. Might also be the reason why you're not getting channels above 99.

To make things clearer - I can actually see all channels and tune in if I manually enter using the remote. It is that the TV appears to allow only 99 channels to be programmed which means if I've used up all the 99 channel slots then I won't be able to add more. This is wierd because all old CRT TV's and my old LCD could store ALL the channels of my TV provider and remember these. Is there a remedy for this? I haven't tried the reset yet since that will will wipe out all the settings I've painstakingly entered. Geesh!

Almost automatic na dapat yung tuning sir. At first din nahirapan ako dahil kailangan manual adjustments pa.. that's because pala maling region/country yung na-set ng sights and sounds. Hindi siya compatible sa tv system/setting ng pinas. Kaya I had to reset the tv and set to north american region. After non, madali na magtune ng channels. Not sure lang if that would solve the problem na hanggang 99 channels max in your case.

Mabigat na problema yan sir. It could be a bad cable, board or panel. Kailangan talagang pa-service.

....undecided pa sila dun sa SnS..pero kung panel din problema baka palitan na rin yung unit...btw nag enjoy sila sa picture quality ng V20 natin..ganda daw ng pagka-black compare mo dun sa ibang display....kahit wala na unit marami pa rin naghahanap...
