what do you mean what else do you need? what do you want to do with your tv?

watch cable TV? subscribe to your local cable operator.
watch movies? get a DVD player, blu ray, or media player
play games? get a PS3,Wii,Xbox...

bro, wag mo muna problemahin mga htib, nmt, bdp, dvd. bili ka muna tv :)
but if you can spend your money without hesitation, then go buy all the gadgets you need at one time. i guess choosing the right equipment for you is not too hard if you know what you really want.. you could easily go to an av store and have an audition.

tama si sir c_lee89! wag mo "muna" problemahin yung iba, TV muna pero kung may budget naman, bili lang ng bili!  ;D if your into movies, siguro next step is bluray player or NMT para ma-appreciate mo yung PQ (Picture Quality). Then, para naman ma-aapreciate mo yung SQ (Sound Quality), bili ka rin ng Receiver at speakers.. ayun na! Welcome sa never ending journey sir!  ;)

NMT stands for Network Media Tank. Sa konting alam ko, isa itong device/equipment na High Definition media player for video viewing of video files, video streaming. Also, music player for your music files and internet radio if its wifi capable. Examples are Popcorn Hour, Iextreamer, Medextreamer, etc.. browse mo yung thread na NMT sir maraming NMT gurus don.. hth  :)

http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/42/84/222/DV-220KV-K/specs.html

wala po bang media player lang (movie files thru flashdisks / external hdd).. kasi yung dvd player namin .avi lang yung kaya iplay thru usb hehehe..
parang di naman mamaximize samin ung may wifi pa saka streaming ng videos. hehe..

many thanks po sa mga nag rereply!

i suggest to start slow and grow from there.  Buy a portable hard drive like "passport"  500gb which you can connect to most led monitors.   The passport can load up from 25 to 50 mkrv files depending on the gb, that should be sufficient to start you already.  those portable hard drives cost from 2,500 and up i think.

goodluck

if you want to enjoy watching HD movies without spending much, i suggest you buy a decent hdtv and a NMT. Definitely mas economical compared to blurays, and even to dvds. besides, iba pa rin yung may dedicated na media player, mas convenient at mas enjoy ang panonood.

Mga sirs, pwede pasali.... Noob also here.

Just bought a Toshiba 32rv700 and a Philips DVP3588K/98 DVD player (with HDMI 1080p and WMV Playback daw). Right now, yung TV lang ang gamit ko when I watch DVDs. Ok naman yung sounds kung TV lang ang gamit. But I wanna experience the home theater feeling kaya nga I bought myself an HDTV.

I want to upgrade na sana to a Panasonic SC-PT75 HT setup (bigay ko nalang sa sister ko yung Philips DVD player).... wala pang one week yung mga nabili ko.

My question is, may difference ba ang DVD players, Philips vs Panasonic (they both say that they have HDMI 1080p, etc.)... or bili nalang ako ng speakers para sa Philips DVD player. Pwede ba yun?

Noob as a noob.... just learning slowly... hehe. Thanks!

if you don't want to give up your player, there are home theater sets na receiver + speakers lang.

then there's the usual complete set, dvd player + speakers (HTIB).

as for the difference, depende sa specs of course. compare side-by-side :)

Thanks. Yes, yun din naisip ko eh... since I already have a DVD player na HDMI ready naman, kuha nalang ako ng 5.1 system (?).

What can you suggest for a noob.... budget is around 3K-5K.

Thanks in advance sa magrereply.

uh..if you want a decent system, you will have to invest much more hehe. cheap home theaters usually sound like good PC speakers :)

budget for a decent basic (yes, basic) system is around 10-15k. the really good ones is around 20-30k. the high-ends... much much more.

Sir, If I you will go along with this hobby, I suggest that go for seperate components na like receivers, speakers (front, rear, center, sub) Im not againt HTIB pero, IMHO doon din ang patutunguhan mo  ::) para iwas doble gastos  ;) read and read on the thread for gears that you need. Maraming tutulong dyan sayo (at mangkukulam  ;D )
The Marketplace is the best place you can buy good gears at reasonable price. Mas ma-appreciate mo nga yan pag paisa isang nabubuo.. Goodluck brader!  :D And enjoy the journey  ;)

Honga sir, I suggest you go for separates. I'm 100% percent sure na darating ang time na iisipin mo "parang may kulang?"

The best way is to invest in a good entry level receiver.  Then if you dont have a budget for speakers, you can use  your old components speakers. If you dont know yet, most receivers has the option to let you use just the Front speakers and mixed all the sound there.

Then when you already have the budget, you can invest on a good fronts, center then surround.

Dami naman nagbebenta sa buy and sell. YOu might also want to check it.

A popular combination here in pdvd are harman Kardon + wharfedales or Denon + JBLs.

Hope this helps, Happy hunting and enjoy!
