LCD/LED/Plasma recommendations for 1st time buyers
« on: Sep 04, 2010 at 02:27 PM »
I get a lot of PMs from 1st time buyers asking for recommendations on what T.V to get for different uses,  to try to answer all these questions I'll give out my personal choices.

Do note that different models/technologies perform best in certain areas, so we'll have unit recs for the following use:

1)Cable T.V
2)Pc use
3)DVD
4)Blu-Ray
5)Games

There are plenty of experts here, who can also give out their takes. A trip to Sights and Sounds for testing will be in order*, so if you guys like me to look at a particular brand, just post them here.

Thank you.

*I'm also looking for a new 32 inch LCD T.V for my brother so while I hunt down for a unit, I can do the testings as well ;)

Sir, Have you seen the Sanyo 42K40 LCD TV? What can you say about this TV? Any review? One supplier I know said that SM is the exclusive reseller of this unit. That's why its hard to find this TV in other stores. This unit is only 37K or 35K on some SM stores w/ discounts. But on Japanese websites this TV cost around 144,900 Yen or around 76k and more expensive than some of the 42" models of Toshiba, Panasonic, JVC and Sharp full HD TVs. Seen this TV side by side with a Pana 42" plasma and a 37 LCD on SM Makati. And the PQ is ok but lack of expert review on the net make me think twice about this TV. So I'm torn between this TV and the LG 37" LD460. I'm supposed to buy TV last Aug. but up until now can't decide between this two.

That Sanyo LCD is a "KAIGAI MUKE" (Overseas) multisystem model so the listed price on a Japanese Site (Rakuten) relative to other overseas models is not a reliable gauge of quality and technology - if anything, an expensive kaigai muke price could easily mean the market share is very low hence price is high.  In fact, Sanyo's LCD TV sales in Japan is quite poor that their TV business is concentrated overseas (tie-up with Walmart among others).   Rechargeable battery is their main business.

But if that Sanyo's image quality looks good to you, then so be it.

Sir, Thanks for the info. The PQ is ok with me. but now I'm leaning more to LG, less size but with mkv players.
and I heard the 42" LD460 is now being sold at 40k?

Sir can you recommend the best bang for the buck LCD/LED tv @ 40 inches used mainly for our condo unit (80 sqm) with recommended HTIB? this Tv will mainly be used for PS3, watching American series (kahit via vlc file lang) movies, and just about an average of 2 hours/day cable viewing  ;D I'm really torn kasi between the following models:

LG 42LD460 @ 40k+ 10k for HT805
40C700 44K+6K for avlink HT free sidewinder
Samsung 40C550+ HTC350= around 63k
or
LG 42SL90 @ 63k without any HTIB?
Samsung 40C530-48k very cheap.

Sir Vic really gives nice prices @ sights and sounds and i plan to purchase na finally this coming 2nd or 3rd week of sept since my dad is scheduled to go home. only problem is i can't really decide. haha

Sir Carlo,
Newbie here. I am deciding what to purchase but I have ended up delaying and delaying my purchase (its been 2 months now) because I simply can't decide. So please in your opinion what would be the best choice LG 32 LH70 at 30k (I know a store with a couple of units left), LG 37 LD 460 30k at S&S or should I just wait for the LG 560 series? Mostly used for cable tv viewing and DVD, but have a eye on the future for blue ray player maybe even intenet TV. Do you have any other suggestions? TIA  ;D

Hi guys, let's give a quickie for the Tosh CV700 and the LG 460:

For DVD:

The Toshiba having the edge here, we prefer the way the CV700 defines color for DVD! Not being too bright and having a more earthly look suits upscaled materials very well.

For Blu-Ray:

The LG wins hands down, jumping and screaming, with the much needed digital look that a FULL HD LCD panel could muster.

More later...

For those who really want a good "cable" performance, I'd say off the bat... it's the Toshiba CV700.

The CV700 has a cable booster and I tested this feature with these observations:

Cable:

I was very curious about this "Auto-Cable Booster" from Toshiba, that despite the fact, I was not going to use this set for regular programs (initially) I just tested it anyway. The auto-channel was not the most accurate in the world, not only does it screw up the positions (as expected), but it always misses HBO or Star movies! You can't have them both, unless you do manual channeling. The manual tuning was pretty straight forward but was very time consuming...half way thru the operations I simply canceled it, as it will take too much of my time.

The results, however, was surprising! This "Auto-Cable Booster" really does work in giving you crisper cable views that I did not really expect. Most likely, I'll continue with the channeling all day today (bummer!).

Looking good Tosh! Looking very good ;)

Back to testing.

Yes, the LD460 is your best bet for a 32 inch LCD model for the PS3 ;)

Fast response time, no blur and good rendition of digital pictures!

LG T.Vs are very good for PS3 gaming, but so is the Toshiba CV700! If you like the colors of the CV700, it's not a shabby model for PS3, and it's also good for cable T.V.

sir question po newbie here im planning on getting an LCD tv for the first time kaya lang ang dami ko dilemma gusto ko kasi talaga bang for the buck ang makuha ko including sa HT gusto ko sulit din for the LCD pretty much may idea na ko ive narrowed it down to this 2 brands

LG 32LD330 with free HT-353SD but im planning to upgrade it to HT-554TM or HT805PM add lang ako ng 5K  to 7K for SNS promo main reason is because it can play MP4 files and meron karaoke function for wifey

my other choice is

Samsung LA-32C350 bundled with HT-C330

question ko po is ano po ang mas ok dito sa dalawa including yung HT pag nag play ba ako ng regular DVD movie sa non HDMI player tapos lagay ko nalang sa high ang settings ng screen may diffrence ba or kailangan talaga HDMI ready yung player?

my budget is only 28k max na talaga ang 30k masama na loob ko pag ganun kalaki aabutin hehehehehehe

help me out sir or if you have any other units that you could reffer pls do so BTW main purpose of the TV is for cable viewing DVD and xbox gaming.

thanks pasensya na mejo mahaba

Hello,

Pls. help me decide... I'm planning to buy my first 32 inch LCD tv
for standard cable viewing (50%), movie viewing[dvd, mp4, dat] (20%) and wii playing (30%).
xbox360 for future used.

These are my choices:
Sanyo k30
Sanyo k40
Panasonic 32c10x
Panasonic 32c20
Toshiba AV700

What do you recommend?

Notice that these models are are 20k or less,

Anyway, I am leaning on for the LG32LD460 pero parang di pa rin ako satisfied..

Thanks!
