Receiver for Dual Display Set-up
« on: Jan 09, 2012 at 03:01 PM »
I'm thinking of adding a projector later this year  to my HT setup.  I'm also on the lookout for a new receiver.  I just realized that if I'm going to retain my plasma setup (plasma at the back of the PJ screen), I would need a receiver with a dual HDMI out.  So my plan is, for SD video and cable viewing, I'm going to use the plasma and for Blu ray movies, I'll use the PJ.  What are my other options?  Are HDMI splitters/switchers any good or am I really better off with a receiver with dual HDMI output?  Dual HDMI out are usually limited to high end receivers and cost a bit more.

Let's just say around 47k (local price ng Onkyo 709).  Initially kasi I was just thinking of a single HDMI output receiver but then I realized I have to future-proof my purchase according to my upgrade plan.  Mahal kasi ng receivers sa atin.  Thinking of sourcing it from amazon so that I have more choices but a bit worried about it being damaged in transit, and of course concern na rin with warranty.  So, is dual HDMI output really needed or ok lang naman to use HDMI switchers? What do I need to know about these splitters/switchers?   This will greatly affect my decision on which receiver to get.  I don't really need a very powerful receiver since my HT room is not so big.

Around 45K probably. With that budget I suggest getting the Onkyo 709 $549 or 809 $699 sa Amazon.

Shipping cost around Php 5k - 8k

Is that via Johnny Air Sea Freight?  Issues ko lang if I do that are warranty, possible damage in transit, and it being 120V.  But I'm strongly considering it.

i believe mas mura pa ding option ang amazon, say for an 809, baka close to 70K dito sa atin pero sa amazon baka mga 45K lang landed cost or even cheaper, thats 25K difference, sa dami naman ng nag order sa amazon dio sa atin so far wala pa naman akong nabalitaang nag kaproblema

809 could be the best otpion for you, this one is a big leap from the 807 and 808, better details, improved surround and center channel and the panning is something that will put smiles to the listener, unlike the 807 and 808, this unit does not run hot and even if it does, merong dalawang fans that blows hot air outside the top vents. ang ganda pa ng itsura nya.

If you want a future-proof AVR, get a Denon 4311 from the US. With patience, you can get it for $1250.

It has 2 x HDMI outputs, Audyssey MultEQ XT32, HDMI 1.4 for 3D, Audyssey DSX for 11 channels. Dasal ka na lang na wala problem when it arrives. That's what I do.   ;D

What's the best way to ship it?  Johnny Air sea freight?  I've actually ordered electronic items from amazon before (Bluray player, Sony Handycam), but this one is too big and heavy so baka more prone to damage.  Kailangan talaga ng dasal  :D

How about using splitters?  Is it advisable or will video quality suffer?

Around ganyan price ng pobox and alas cargo. Sa JAC I inquired lang yung via air freight. Nasa 15k to 17k and 3 to 5 days shipping to pinas.

Mahal talaga kapag air freight.  Gaano katagal ang hintay for pobox?

Dati i use powered HDMI splitter. But when i used my PC as a source both for audio and movies, i simply added a PC monitor via VGA cable. Then HDMI going to receiver. Dual monitor mode talaga. Hindi lang siya mirror image ng single screen.
