Its been a very long while since I last bought speakers for my HT set up.I am very happy with my Monitor Audio RS6 and RS LCR that I have kept them quite long and never got interested in anything else. The RS series is highly regarded and has kept me very happy.
The past two years though my interest in using my HT died down probably because it does not offer anything new anymore so I just watch occasionaly to fire the system up. Last week I stumbled upon some reviews of the SVS Prime Towers and it got me curios so I checked all reviews I could get my hand on. To cut the long story short, all reviews gave the Prime Towers excellent ratings. After going through all reviews I contacted Mike C and inquired. His simple reply, Prime will put to shame my RS.I said to myself no way.Only one way to find out so yesterday I went to Grace Village and auditioned the Prime Towers and Center.
We started with music tracks and was blown away immediately. What kept me drawn to it was the bass it produces, quite deep and controlle without getting distorted. When I say bass I mean I thought the PB200 was playing when I was listening. Bass was so strong audiophiles who run set up with subwoofers would find no need for it, this part I am not exaggerating. Strong but controlled not the punchy type.
So I finally got to set it up and immediately played my favorite Paramita track. While playing I was reminded of a set up that is my benchmark for audio and again without exaggeration.the PRIME sounded like that speakers. My MA was nowhere close to that benchmark set up but the PRIME is.Simply put, the PRIME indeed beat the hell out of my MA RS6. Now readers of this post maybe skeptical about what I'm saying perhaps thinking I am Mike C's SVS poster boy but no the PRIME really delivers. If I may say the PSA sounded better than my SVS so there not a SVS posterboy indeed.
I then tried the PRIMES with movies and boy I am really impressed.Played Hacksaw Ridge and have never heard the dialogues as clear as with the PRIME center. I just realized the wonders that a SVS LCR with SVS subwoofers can do. Using the PRIME LCR establishes the more its superiority over MA RS6 and RSLCR.
Sorry folks but I'm not as good as the others in doing a review but based on my understanding, the PRIME is really an excellent performer.Reviews in the internet are consistent with what I am hearing so far.My only hope is that the confirmed buyer of my MAs will not be able to read this as he may back out of the deal.
Thank you as usual Mike C!!
