NMT with DTSHD MA passthrough
« on: Apr 26, 2011 at 08:27 AM »
Hi guys, ask ko lang what NMT can truly downmix(not just as advertised) TrueHD/DTS MA to Dolby/DTS? Also have you tried/experienced the said feature on your own NMT/receiver?

I have an old yamaha receiver that is connected to my Xtreamer Sidewinder thru optical. I have several DTSMA mkv files that's not being downmixed by the NMT.

I'm planning to get another NMT but it should have the feature stated above. I'm already satisfied with the regular dolby/DTS function and have no plans in upgrading my receiver yet.

thanks in advance.

Do you mean downmix to stereo for direct TV output?

There is no such thing as DTS-HD/TrueHD downmix to DTS/Dolby Digital respectively.  If your receiver is not capable of decoding HD audio, the best it can do is to output DTS-Core from the DTS-HDMA stream.  DTS-Core is always available within DTS-HDMA audiostream.  If your NMT is set to pass-through, DTS should be outputted.

With regard to TrueHD, it's more complicated.  The only way for a legacy receiver to output sound is if there is an interleaved AC3/DD in the audiostream.    Chris Botti's concert BD is a good example of that. There are BDs having interleaved AC3 in English but there are also those with none (unfortunately - in which case, only AC3 in other foreign languages are available) - Saturday Night Fever BD is an example.   Wife is a big fan of young Travolta that I finally convinced her to get a new AVR para mapalabas ang English TrueHD sound..hehehe.

In case an AC3 is interleaved in the audiostream, you have to manually select that audio channel via your NMTs remote - it would be like Audio 2, 3, 4, and so forth with TrueHD as the default Audio 1.  In the case of DTS-HDMA, DTS-Core will be automatically outputted.

Now if the Xtreamer can't do that, that's pathetic.  hehehe.  No disrespect meant because it should be capable.

+1 Sir Clondalkin;

That said...

Popcorn Hour 200 series can;

- Play DTS core from a DTSHS track via optical and downmix to Stereo.
- Play AC3 interleaved track from a TrueHD ONLY if you use BDMV/ISO because ISO is a 1:1 copy and not a rip like MKV.*

* limited to C200 because it supports full bluray navigation. I am testing it now.

yup clondalkin.. that's what I meant pala, yung "passthrough". My NMT doesn't passthrough DTSHDMA to DTS core. only prologic is shown in the receiver. I think this is an issue with Xtreamer yata.

guess I might as well upgrade my receiver then.

thanks bro and sci-fan as well.

The original xtreamer using the first realtek chipset can't output HD Audio due to silicon flaw.

just went to the Xtreamer site and they do have issues with this feature even on sidewinders. although they claimed that they have already fixed it on their previous FW updates but consumers still report the same issue.

WD TV Live

Never encountered any hiccup playing different audio formats,
DTSMA would be played on its DTS core...

Cheers,..

they have been certified to passthrough DTSHD MA  ;)

i think they are the only player right now that can passthrough and tested.

Even the first gen of Mede8er500X with the old Realtek Chip can isolate DTS-Core from DTSHDMA without any problems.

Dolby TrueHD ang headache ever since.

you can try the new DVICO TVIX NMTs ... even my 2-years+ TVIX M6500 can passthrough Dolby TureHD, DTS-HD, and Dolby Digital Plus

i've posted pics showing that the AVR is recognizing the said HD formats being passthrough by the player on the following thread for your reference -

Sir vortex1,  IMO don't change your NMT muna, sayang.  Your NMT(Xtreamer sidewinder) can extract DTS core and can decode HDAudio  most certainly in more than 95% of the time I you have a capable receiver. I based this on my Xtreamer Pro usage which more or less share the same software as your NMT and I only had 3 movies that did not show TRUEHD on my receiver and instead showed a DD logo.  The rest revealed the HDaudio formats as DTSMA and TRUEHD.

Good day!

I was able to confirm this yesterday.
I ripped a Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen BD yesterday (whopping 40GB!)
Tested it on the Kaiboer 130i, and yes, on the Onkyo 509 receiver it says DTS HD Master Audio.
I wanted to confirm if this will not be the same on the Xtreamer Mk. 1, and on the receiver, it just says DTS.
And yes, there is a noticable difference between the two.

However, my realization is that, there are not that many mkv's out there that have DTSHD audio.
But still, for P3500, it's a pretty decent upgrade.
My only hangup though is that LPCM Multi-Channel on the K130i still give out only 2 channels. Same as the dual channel. Is this file related, or is this a problem with the NMT?

@comet yup sir. I'm still waiting for the Xtreamer programmers to update the FW. hopefully maayus nila to. thanks.
buti sa PRO walang prob passthrough. mk1 and SW lang talaga issue.

@vortex1

Where are you staying? If you are in makati or nearby area, and if you are interested, I offer an Egreat R200 for pickup so you can test it for your concern w/o obligation :)

Sadly, I only have an old AVR so I want to get PDVD community confirmation it does DTSMA and TRUEHD as advertised.

Just PM /text me +09178039427 to set a schedule. Hope that helps.

malayo sainyo sir eh. Tsora pa. luma rin yung yamaha AVR, di pa sya hdmi bro.
pero i'm considering buying another NMT in the future, i'll be probably getting r200 based on all the reviews. wait ko lang muna tong FW update ng NMT ko. thanks for the help sir. really appreciate it.
