« on: Feb 08, 2011 at 10:47 PM »
Hi guys, just want to ask if this set up can achieve Cinema like audio.. and will the amp be sufficient to power the polks? Basically im doing a Polk audio set up... :)

Polk Audio tsi300 - front

Polk Audio cs10 - center
Polk Audio PSW 505 - sub
Onkyo TXR-608 for the amp.

Onkyo generally considered warm sounding while the polk speakers are bright.

It will make a good match  :)

^ ako naman, the high end Yamahas are neutral to warm.
Their entry-level offerings are bright.

don't worry we all have our preferences.some like laid back sounding speakers while some like forward sounding ones.the important thing is to follow your ears and wallet just like they used to say

This is so true! Some says warm, bright, etc. Thats why its very subjective. Ako kasi, when I listen to different set up, I dont say pangit or maganda.. The correct term that I use is its "different". Bottom line is, It is you that will listen/enjoy your set up kaya if you audition ang mga set up at nagustuhan ng panlasa mo, go for it! Goodluck and enjoy the journey!  ;)

not to mess up the thread of sir mdelro, but can someone please describe in layman's terms what a bright sounding and warm sounding receiver is, all reviews i read says Onkyo is bright.

Yan nga din kasi ang mga nababasa at naririnig ko... kaso wala naman talaga akong basis to distinguish one over the other.

onkyo,

here's how a contributor of stereophile defines bright.

bright, brilliant The most often misused terms in audio, these describe the degree to which reproduced sound has a hard, crisp edge to it. Brightness relates to the energy content in the 4kHz-8kHz band. It is not related to output in the extreme-high-frequency range. All live sound has brightness; it is a problem only when it is excessive.

full text of article here. Sounds Like? An Audio Glossary

mdelro,

don't worry too much about reviews you read, or people's comments about a certain gear. don't put too much importance on declared specs as well. audition some candidates, and if you liked what you heard through the system, go for it. remember, you'll be the one using the system.  :)
peace man!

Got this from the net quoted by Ed Seedhouse.  ;D

Well, a "warm" sound will I presume have a rolled off treble and a prominent mid-bass with a slow decline toward the high frequencies.

As "red" is a "warm" color and is also the longest wavelenght visual color, then by analogy a speaker or other device that emphases the long wavelenths may be said to be "warm".

You will be very happy with your Polk Audio TSi system. It will put most mall cinemas to shame.
