32" LED or LCD?
« on: Mar 08, 2011 at 09:43 AM »
Hi! Sorry if i a similar thread exists already. I just registered and was wondering if i could really get some help here. I keep on hearing this radio ad about the Samsung LED for the price of LCD.
I went to Abenson's in Greenbelt the other day and ung LED Samsung UA-32C4000 is at 26900.
Thing is, wala ako masyadong alam sa specs so im not sure if Samsung's LED is a good deal or not.
Ang alam ko lang diff ng LED sa LCD is power consumption. Other than that wala na.

Any suggestions? LED or LCD? My budget is around 25k for a 32" tv.

Salamat!  :)

LED is definitely the way to go if price is not an issue.

1. Better backlights
2. Slightly improved sweet spot angle but not great
3. considerably reduced blooming
4. lower power consumption
5. better contrast ratio.
6. slightly better refresh rates.

Hi!
Hehe still cant decide!

You will only notice bleeding once you watch under controlled condition. That is, if you turned off the lights. If you will mostly watch with lights on, considering you are only looking at 32" screens, and I assume you would not be watching high def movies in a movie theater simulation a lot, then you will hardly, if not at all, notice the blooming since this is a newer set.

The only issue you will have with edge-lit technologies is the poorer contrast ratio compared to back-lit sources.

That being said, the only real difference between an "LED" TV and an LCD TV, is that the "LED" TV uses LED to light the mirrors, while the traditional LCD uses CCFLs. With all things being equal, I'd say LED TVs, those that are not backlit, are just the same dog with different collars. That means, its bark will still remain the same.

So choose whichever is cheaper because using LED without actually changing the lighting configuration will not make any noticeable difference at all. Perhaps a slight savings on your next month's power bill.

Haaay.. it's been a long time since i posted here sa PDVD and catching up on the LED technology. On the market as well for a 32" LED/LCD and leaning towards LG for now pero still need to do more research. I have 3 friends who already bought LG LCD/LEDs kaya LG must be doing something right :) I initially liked the Samsung's LED series pero wala na yata sa budget ko yun series 6 or 7. Tapos nandyan din yun mga Sony LEDs and bagsakan na yun mga presyo.I see some very attractive offers here sa PDVD and will definitely consider those once I finalize. Hirap lang ako to decide on the brand.

May nablitaan din akong codec audio issue sa mga LG when you plug and play an HD movie via USB so hindi pa ako 100% sure if that happens sa LED models nila din. Can anyone shed some light on this?

P.S. matagal ng bumigay yun Philips pixel plus ko na CRT.. hahaha! That is one big TV at sakit sa likod pag lipat ng bahay.. hehe!

Figured it out after much reading here and sa avforum. My friend was telling me about the dts limitation pala and LG models are unable to decode dts audio properly. Sayang naman and i wonder if Samsung/Sony or the other brands are the same for built-in usb player?

I've decided to skip the LE5300 and may get the newer LE5500 instead. Although still thinking if i should wait for the newer LV series though.

i'm planning to ask this question but already answered. Thanks.

quick question lang. gano kalayo ang distance para hindi mo makita ang diff ng 1080p and 720p sa 32"?
kung tutukan ba may diff ba?

found this one for you.

with such panels, you can be seated as close as 1.5 times the screen's diagonal measurement and not notice image pixelation, while sitting a distance of more than three times the screen size means you're likely to miss out on the immersive feel and finer details. Here's a rundown of minimum and maximum recommended viewing distances for widescreen sets.

HDTV diagonal screen size       Min. viewing distance           Max. viewing distance
(in inch)                               (in meter)                           (in meter)

           26                                         1.1                                     2.2
           32                                        1.4                                     2.7
           37                                        1.6                                     3.1
           42                                        1.8                                     3.5
           46                                        1.9                                       3.8
           50                                        2.1                                       4.2

depends if you're OC or appreciative enough haha.

personally, i think it's noticeable but negligible on live (series/movies). but on CG and animation, very noticeable.

both samsung and sony have different model grades. what particular models (and prices) are you talking about? :)

if that's the case, then good deal sa sony. pero mukhang overpriced lang talaga samsung nila.

most 32" LEDs are around 30k na lang, which makes that sony still more expensive.  try too google the exact model code for reviews and shop around for price comparison.

personally, i really dont care much about internet capability, internet surfing is still much more convenient via pc/laptop. at 36k, i'd rather get a 42" LCD or 50+" plasma. :)
