Banana plug vs. Bare(?) connection speaker wires
« on: Mar 18, 2011 at 11:39 AM »
sirs, question lang. ano advantage in using banana plugs versus bare connection ng speaker wires? I'm just starting to set-up a home theater system for my bedroom and noob pa in this sort of stuff. I'm an electrical engineer by profession and the only advantage i see in using banana plugs is walang exposed wiring and mas madali magtanggal at magkabit ng speaker wires sa AVR and sa speaker terminals. any other advantages performance-wise?

Tama po kayo Sir. Mas convenient using Banana plugs dahil madalas taggal kabit ng speakers due to upgradedititis at re-positioning.

Para sa akin ang advantage lang ng banana plugs e madali maglipat ng wires. Mas gamitin ko ang banana plugs since 2 sets ang speakers ko. Without it, tatamarin na akong maglipat. Pero kung fixed naman ang setup mo then ok na ang bare then every now and then check mo na lang kung may dumi. Para lang po sa akin yan ha.  ;)

IMHO, another disadvantage of barewire is oxidation whereas connectors are coated or protected against oxidation.  :)

I agree, kung soldered ang termination (like yung mga preterminated wires). :)

Otherwise kasi nag-o-oxidize din dun sa loob ng plugs hindi lang kita. :D

sirs...newbie question.

what if I don't have banana plugs, can i still connect the bare wires sa banana terminal(hehe the one with screw cap, dunno what it's called)? I mean will it work/still produce sound on the speaker?

TIA

Bakit kasi malikot ang isip ng tao, kaya tuloy may banana plugs pa,  ;D ;D

Uulitin ko na lang ang nasulat ko na... kung one time setup ka lang then rekta mo na sa speaker pero kung papalit-palit ka ng speaker then by all means use those plugs and simply ENJOY what's playing.  ;)

for me both has its disadvantages & advantages, Barewire for me has better conduction & banana plugs is more convenient. Oxidation will not be an occurrence in pure silver cables but it will surely be in ordinary ones  ;)

in fact there are some people na mas gusto and bare connection para walang possible signal loss.

Silver also oxidizes. If you want a good conductor that resists oxidation, gold is the right material.

Oxides of copper are still conductive... though may signal loss talaga. Maybe we should contact Master Roy aka royal for those gold deposits....  ;D

OC ang iba pag dating sa ganyan. Bare wires are a no-no. Sakin pwede na bare para siguradong pasok at masikip. Orgasmic na agad tumunog. ;D

Do take note also na ang butas ng ibang bananas at malalaki kaya kapag maliliit na wires ang gagamiti at maluwag at ang solusyon ay itiklop ang wires para kumapal at maganda ang kapat kapag pinihit na ng dahan-dahan ang screw.
