Deron Williams agrees with Besiktas

NBA star Deron Williams has agreed terms with Turkish club Besiktas in principle.
Williams will sign a contract with Besiktas that will allow him to return to NBA as soon as the lockout ends. Nevertheless it is the greatest summer transfer by a European club, so far.

Williams who was traded to New Jersey Nets earlier this season after a fall out with the former team coach Jerry Sloan would be receiving $16.000.000 this year, but obviously doesn't want to stay inactive during the lockout.

The 27 year old will reportedly receive $200.000 per month.

^ This will probably start a trend for some NBA players - not the stars but the "good enough" players - to make a few bucks while the lockout is ongoing.  Wonder if someone will be bold enough to come here, play for the PBA, and eat balut...

this will be the best opportunity of PBA clubs to invite legitimate NBA players to play here and spice up the league and show their great talents.

Wojnarowski tweeted this afternoon: Rockets’ Yao Ming has decided to retire from the NBA, league sources tell Y! Sports. He informed the league office within past 48 hours.

That's too bad. Shaq, then Yao.  Yao could have had a Hall of Fame career, were it not for those injuries and so-so teammates in Houston. But he was definitely a special player.

Well, at least someone else will now be voted as starting center for the Western Conference all-stars next season (if there will be one).

bugbog din kasi si Yao Ming sa basketball kaya puro injuries. NBA from Novermber-June (depending on your playoff performance) then plays sa national basketball team ng China. It's taken a toll on his body.

Salary ni Yao Ming (per game played, first 7 seasons) - USD123,338.69
Salary ni Greg Oden (per game played) - USD265,798.10

Ahhhh may karapatan naman na palang magretiro,...  :)

Hindi naman, naka-481 games naman siya sa first 7 seasons niya, plus 28 games in 4 playoffs. Last 2 seasons lang talaga bumigay ang injury niya. Kung lugi ang pag-uusapan, Portland na siguro ang Biggest Loser - Greg Oden, 82 games in 4 seasons, plus 6 games in 1 season.

Salary ni Yao Ming (per game played, first 7 seasons) - USD123,338.69 - with career-averages of 19.0ppg (.524FG%-.833FT%), 9.2rpg, 1.9bpg
Salary ni Greg Oden (per game played) - USD265,798.10 - with career-averages of 9.4ppg (.577FG%-.666FT%), 7.3rpg, 1.4bpg

speaking of not being able to get the most of a highly touted pick, it seems portland is unlucky--remember sam bowie?

Injury-prone players like Yao Ming & Greg Oden should try their luck with the Phoenix Suns.
Amare had serious knee problems and surgeries and was able to recover from it.
Shaq was able to play 75 games during his full season with the team.
Grant Hill revitalized his  career during the last 3 years.
Even Steve Nash looks like he'll still lead that team til he's 40.

May manghihilot siguro sa trainers ng Suns... hehehe.

Jeff Van Gundy: Yao is a Hall of Famer

There’s going to be a lot of debate in the coming years, now that Yao Ming is retired, about whether or not he’s a Hall of Famer. It’s going to be one of the more interesting debates about the Hall, which always makes for tense discussions. Yao after all led a basketball revolution in China, opening up billions of dollars in available revenue to the league in the Asian nation (which of course the owners have still somehow managed to turn into a loss which is the players’ fault, but let’s not go there). He was the best center in the league from approximately 2006-2009 when healthy (Dwight Howard only really rose to prominence in the second half of the 2008-2009 season). He possessed something few big men today have, touch. He was an intelligent defender, a fierce competitor, a franchise player.

He also played basically half a career due to injuries.

So the debate will rage. But his former coach, Jeff Van Gundy, made it clear to the Houston Chronicle that there should be no question. JVG feels that the Dynasty should get in:

“No. 1 to me, he’s a Hall of Famer,” Van Gundy said. “Idon’t care if you put him in as player, as a contributor or put him in with his own heading. This guy definitely gets in for the greatness as a player when healthy or what he did as ambassador.”

He then added a thought he would repeat often.

“People forget,” Van Gundy said, “just how good he was."

Oh, Lebron.

lebron james dunking on a camper 2011
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3bUb72KzFA&feature=player_embedded

Quote from: youtube
lebron showed up to a basketball camp and after speaking to the kids, he played a few games of knockout. The kid in front of him missed and lebron missed right after him. lebron's brick bounced far to the right corner and the kid went to go make his lay up. In an effort to not get eliminated, lebron came charging back and went to dunk as the kid was shooting a layup and dunked on him knocking him over!

My dad told me that an NBA Team (Washington Bullets?) visited the Philippines once in the late 70's and nearly lost to a PBA selection.  Can someone confirm?
