HTIB: are they any good?
« on: Aug 28, 2011 at 03:23 PM »
I will be getting 55" 3D LED TV in two weeks time, I am thinking of buying a good audio system as well.  I am thinking of HTIBs of Samsung or LG or Bose, etc. which is 5.1ch.  Are they any good? or what other good choices are there?

Also any brand you guys recommend.  I am a newbie at this stuff  ;D

Onkyo HTS3400 ata ang recommended HTIB ng karamihan. Priced around P25K.

or you can do it step by step in coming up with a high end audio system. start with a high-end receiver and 2 main speakers setup. tapos add ka in the future ng center, subwoofer and rear speakers.

HTIBs are like the fast food of audio-video and you get a home theater setup in an instant. Depending on your discerning ears you may or may not like it. But for a 55inch TV, that may not be enough. Usually I suggest to people to get an Onkyo htib if an htib is really what you want. The reason is the bundled receiver is by itself almost a full-pledged receiver and gives you room to work in the future. But the choice is really yours. If you can get separates at this time go for it.

HTIB are like Instant Noodles, if you want a hassle free & clutter free-wiring set-up then go for it. Just audition first  to be sure if your soul is contented w/ the sound quality & functionality of your needs ;)

Thanks po sa mga replies.  After reading sa mga forums, I think I may be getting na ung Onkyo HT.  I am choosing between Onkyo HT-S5405 or the Onkyo HT-S9305 THX.  Since I am a newbie, I really don't know which one to choose, the HT-S9305 is more pricey (P50K++) compared to HT-S5405 but I really don't understand the difference between them (specs-wise).  Any advice?  Or is the HT-S5405 good enough?

7.1ch or 5.1ch good enough?

If you have P50k to burn, I would skip a HTIB altogether.  get a proper receiver and an entry-level HT speaker setup.  A good example would be to get an entry-level HK, Pioneer, Onkyo AV Receiver for about 25k or less, and spend the rest on a 5.1 setup using either Polk, Wharfedale or Klipsch speakers.  That setup will serve you well and be good for both music and HT.

Okey na yung 5.1 pag maganda yung basic setup. You can buy the extra 2 speakers later.

Ok so if im gonna spend around 60K better get separates?  So for receiver its good choice to have Onkyo, and for speakers those Polk, wharfdale, klipsh?  Ill try to research now about them, any suggestions po sana on specific model for each, kung ano na po sana ung maganda na talaga?

One consideration for me is the room kung saan ko ilalagay ung set up.  Its not that big and I dont want it to be over the top or overkill kung masyadong malaki ung bibilhin ko na speakers.  Any suggestions po?

You can just get the bookshelf models for speakers. Audition ka na lang. Kung hard up ka sa budget, try mo yung mga aaudio locally made speakers. Madami ding nagpapakawala ng used but still very good condition. Rue of thumb nga lang dapat timbre matched yung fronts mo. So, dapat same speaker range and brand yung L, C, and R mo.

I agree with setting up a good HK , ONKYO, marantz etc receiver and get good bookshelfs speakers
like polk, infinity , and slowly complete your set up with a sub and surround speakers.

Although i have an 8 year old onkyo HTIB 570, and it still rocks for movies
and music.

thanks

it is really dependent on how much sound goodness you want

and

how much money you want to pay!

Though going so many full-blown branded mix/match will always work, balancing how you want your system sound and how much you are willing to pay for it (as a beginner or a novice) will dictate your decisions.

But if your sound satisfaction can be addressed by HTIB, then it can be a great saving, and starting point of learning what you want later.

Your best bet is to give any good HTIB a listen. Start with LG 965TZ (with player & receiver na) and demo listen yourself. LG 905TA has same power but just a DVD receiver. Simpler to setup and way below price - that is, if it can satisfy you.

Sirs, how about the Pioneer Todoroki, is it good for music too or just for movies? Been eyeing this one for some time now but still have to be really convinced its worth it. I currently have an htib samsung z220 but used only for movies, it's not too good for music for me. Thanks!

It may not suit others, as well as me.  :D But if it suits your taste for SQ, then by all means, go. Remember that it's you who should be satisfied first.  ;)
