Subwoofer turning on by itself
« on: Sep 14, 2011 at 06:52 AM »
Hi

I recently connected a powered subwoofer and a 2 channel amp to our bedroom TV. My problem is even when the AMP is off, the subwoofer will occasionally turn itself on when the TV is on even if the AMP is off. See connections below. Ano kaya problema ?

Kung magkasama sa isang AVR or power extension yung SUB at TV, try nyo sir paghiwalayin...

This used to happen before with my Mirage subwoofer. It was actually my cellular phone searching for a signal which was the culprit. If you have a cellphone nearby it could be the reason.

madali ma-turn-on ang sub mo!

yung auto-on circuit ng sub either defective or masyadong sensitive, pag nakasagap ng noise (line noise, interference) nai-interpret nya as turn-on signal.

possible solutions:
1. disable auto-on
2. internal (difficult) tweak to reduce sensitivity.

Subwoofer is connected via speaker level

Most likely very sensitive yung auto on feature nung sub mo? Rhythmik, di ba?  Baka may stray current na nag-leak via the stereo level inputs since connected yung amp mo sa TV.

I also used speaker level inputs sa sub ko dati.  Since all my audio stuff is connected to 1 Xindak, I just leave the sub on and it powers off when I flip the switch to turn off the entire audio setup.  My video is also plugged into a separate line conditioner, just to keep things separate.

check if your amp has speaker selector function. if it has, usually the option are OFF, A, B, A+B. When you switch-off the amp, turn also the selector to OFF position to isolate the speaker output from the link. kung wala, plug the sub to a separate power outlet to so you can completely power down by a flip of a switch.  :)

its not the Rythmik, its a small JBL na sub.  it only does the on/off thing by itself when the TV is on.

I can only do the following  options
A.turn off the SPEAKER A which connects the sub to the amplifier, hopefully this works.
B. Separate outlet.
C. The heck with it, just turn the sub off. >:(

I'm no expert on these, Hindi kaya ito nature sa SUB mo if you're using the speaker-level inputs (thats why it stays on even w/out powering on the amp) rather than thru interconnects w/c clearly detects the signals for Auto-on/off usage  :)

or baka may multo talaga ;D

It only happens when the TV is on. Even if the AMP is off.  The Auto-on works even if the speaker level inputs is used. I guess some stray current / surges is going to the sub even when its off.

OK, maybe you should have it check or if does not bother you at all then I think its fine to have it stay on ;)

Akala ko yung rhythmik, baka ibebenta mo na. . .  ;D

I'd say patayin mo na lang. Save up on electricity, kahit maliit yung current draw. Every little bit helps.
