Panasonic TX-P65VT30
« on: Nov 07, 2011 at 05:47 PM »
Dear fellow enthusiasts,

I have just seen what i will be  lusting for this coming season but it seems quite steep. I have been toggling between a Panny AE-4000 vs this baby. Enter the VT30!

The wife says its more practical in terms of longetivity and quick start ups and normal TV viewing but the price is 2x the projector. The only thing thats going for the PJ is the size of the screen...hmmmm. A quick demo blew  :o me away! And this review:

http://www.avforums.com/reviews/Panasonic-VT30-TX-P50VT30-42VT30-50VT30-55VT30-65VT30-3D-Plasma-Review.html

even whet my appetite for this baby a hundred-fold. Anyone has this or have reviewed it personally? Blacks are almost KURO-like and the reflectiveness is acceptable. I am not much of a 3D fan but this does the job. My only gripe is the heavy glasses. The other features i haven't tried yet. Your inputs are most welcome. ;)

Considering how flat panels come and go, and add their reliability plus durability issues, I would still prefer the projector route plus a cheap 42-55in back up panel that you can replace anytime you want ;)

i'd side with the 65 incher this time. not everyone watches movies with the lights off all the time. and the wife already favors one of your choices. and it is indeed a more practical choice when it comes to everyday usage imo.

With the latest technology and added lumens in projectors(depending on model) you can now enjoy watching it even with ambient lighting. Money vs size ratio, pj is still the winner if you have the space.

These plasmas are going to need even bigger and bigger rooms soon as their viewing sizes continue to increase.

So far as the tally goes: ;D

PJ with a 42-50 inch back up: 1 - ricky

TX-P65VT30: 2 - Henry Rollins, pekspert

FYI: The 65 incher is around 220K (credit) 210K (cash) with 3 3D glasses, a Panny Blu-ray player and AVATAR 3D bluray disc. Keep it coming guys. So Far the AE-4000 is 100K and a lamp costs 30-40K according to the confused salesperson but only $ 345 on the net. Keep them coming fellas! I value all your inputs!

You can watch on the VT30 even at your outdoor garage in the middle of the day. But who would do that?  hehehe

Saying that reflectiveness of the VT30 is acceptable is a huge understatement.  It's flat enough.

Yeah, the 3D glasses are huge and relatively heavy compared to those of passive LGs - but that's how it is in terms of Panasonic 3D tech.

It still doesnt look the same as the Kuro PQ but it's better than the rest out there.  Quite blacker black than my V2, but then my V2 has got awesome PQ already (and in 2010 was dubbed as having infinite black ulready - until the term infiniter was conceived in 2011) - even when all the lights in my bright house are on.

The question is do you need an all-around, all-condition, all-room, all-illumination TV or just a very huge screen for watching movies?

I've been looking for this 3d plasma for 6 months now. Still sns doesn't have it. I'm almost set to buy the 65vt20 but since vt30 is already released I opt to wait for it. Bought first a 50inch plasma and still waiting for the 65vt30 baby. Now where can I buy one?

Panny AE-7000 is already out, the first 3D PJ of Panasonic.  Being sold locally at 165k.   ;D  You might consider this.  Cheaper than the 65 Plasma, its already 3D.

I was actually set on getting the 65ST30 for my new HT but somebody here got me thinking in getting a PJ instead.

Thanks for your input Clondalkin. I have been a plasma fan ever since i had headaches watching on a 42 inch LCD. I already got a 50PY800 for 3 years now and am very contented with it. Now. The initial plan was to place the 50PY800 in the living room and either get either a 42 or 50 plasma in the theater/guest room and get an AE-4000 or equivalent when funds would permit. Problem is the huge window is just opposite the would be screen ( either PJ or wall mounted panel ). They say black out curtains would do the trick yes but the distance from the seats to the screen would only be 3-3.5 meters at most. Moreover this would also double as a guest room but that would be very seldom. I agree withthe fact that PJ cant be contested in terms of size and WOW factor. The wife was a bit reluctant since our old Samsung DLP rear projector conked out after 5 years and no lamp can be bought since its obsolete (thats according to samsung phils.) Dilemma!

Oreoshake, Yes I was about to consider the AE-7000 but like i said...am not much of a 3D fan and I was hoping that the price of the AE-4000 would significantly go down to like 70-80K. Then maybe i could get the wife's approval to go PJ! ::)

Just curious but are your eyes used to watching on projector screens under dark conditions for extended periods?

You mentioned your clearance of 3.5m to the intended location of the panel and although Panasonic claims that 2.4m is the minimum viewing distance for it's 65V plasma, I am certain its a lot healthier at 3m and definitely very comfortable at 3.5m.   I imagine that to be rather close for a 90 inch projector screen - but then I'm totally ignorant of the projector experience.

Some of the reasons why I cannot be a projector user are (1), my viewing distance is barely 3.5 meters if I lean against the end wall - hehe (2) my eyes and head cannot tolerate watching in darkness for a long time at 3.5m.   I need to make the room bright enough and longer in order to watch comfortably. So it's a personal health issue and a room issue.  (3) Certain contents are better watched with lights on (4) I dont like to eat or drink something in the dark..haha

But then Ricky mentioned that new projectors with high lumens allow good viewing even with some ambient lighting (but what level of illumination would that be?).  That sounds very interesting indeed.

I noticed you mentioned having headaches when watching on LCD so I guess you may already have some issues with bright and dark contrasts?  Well you are the doctor right ...hehehe.  On the other hand, you already have a good model 50 inch plasma so it might be worth trying really big next time especially if the purpose is for a dedicated HT system (as opposed to a TV) - and test your tolerance of the immersive and WOW view.  Dilemma nga considering the price of these devices..

If I were you, I'd get a Panasonic AE-4000 and a cheap 42" plasma. If you use an 80-90" screen with the AE-4000, it will be very bright. Get a screen with gain of at least 1.5 and it will be even brighter. This means minimal light control ang kailangan mo. I have calibrated 3 x AE-4000 pj's. They are all excellent. Mas mura pa and you get a TV + pj.

The Panasonic 3D path will be very expensive in the future because of the glasses. Each pair costs between P4k to P7k, depending where you buy it. Ang mahal pa sobra ng bala. On the other hand, a well-calibrated pj looks almost 3D and it has a huge image.

Your viewing distance of 3.5 meters is not a problem for a pj. Maraming pinoydvd members have that viewing distance and screens of 90" and more.

3D feature is just a plus if you're considering going 3D later on.  2D viewing on the AE-7000 shows blacker blacks and more dynamic look to the image compared to the AE-4000 (according to head-to-head comparison reviews).  AE-7000 has a higher lumens and higher contrast ratio.  But I guess if you are not interested in 3D, then the AE-4000 will suffice.  3D glasses and the 3D BD discs will eventually go down in price.

yes that is the price. that's why i got tempted to get the plasma rather than the pj. also it comes already with a blu ray player so another bonus for the price. the wait is worth it. haha. sa HT room ang lagay niyan. next stop Dali speakers naman. iyak ang wallet namin nito. haha.

Kung dedicated ht room, highly recommended yung biggest screen you can fit in the room sir. Also if its a dedicated ht room then I'm sure you will control the lighting and won't be watching cable programs in it :) so a pj will be just fine. Pero an ht with a pj setup and a 65" back up monitor is surely an awesome thing to see talaga ;) I'm setting up 1 soon for a client ;D
