Sir, can you please add for pc gaming?  I bought a 50x20 based on recommendations last Christmas but it can't seem to handle high resolutions when used as a pc monitor.  It reverts to 1024 by 768 which is not even 720p.  Thanks.

That's a 1024x768 native panel (rectangular pixels). You can feed it upto 1080p (1920x1080) via HDMI, but it'd crush the image to 1024x768 anyway.

May mga 1080p panels naman, if that's what you're after. I'm sure Carlo would cover some of them. :)

Yup I got the wrong tv for my needs. It was my fault that I assumed since 720p then kaya 1280 by 720 which is somewhat suitable for me.  I actually asked the question last year in page 6 of the christmas thread but no one answered.

Copied pasted from last years thread:

"Thanks for the picks.  I am leaning towards the 50 x20 based on what I have read here due to it being great for movies and also capable with games.  The price is also great for a 50 incher. However I will be using this not only for blu ray films or ps3 games but as a computer monitor as well.  I read comics, surf, watch chinese tv series and sometimes work at home.  Currently, I am using a 37 inch crt tv.  Will the x20 be appropriate given my usage?"

Nevertheless I am very happy with the 50x20 for movies and ps3 gaming.  However, I miss playing computer games.  I think I have put off playing starcraft 2, total war, and civ 5 for too long.  And Skyrim has finally arrived! :)  So it is Christmas again and I'm looking for a large tv that would also be appropriate for use as a pc monitor but does not break the bank.

Thanks.

I suggest checking out the current 47" - 55" LCD options from Samsung, LG, Sharp, Toshiba, etc. Even fairly affordable ones can look quite good with proper PC calibration, plus you don't risk imprinting the screen with your PC's desktop.

The sharper and flicker-free image from LCD panels make them more ergonomic, especially when doing PC work.

Sorry guys! Again the season has me bogged down with year end reports but here goes the 1st wave..

Panasonic 32C3:

This model has good screen uniformity plus credible pictures to boot. Great for gaming at 32 inches and does a fine job with Blu-Ray and DVD. Note that we found the default picture a bit reddish, but find time to calibrate the C3, and you'll have a winner here.

LG 32LK 450:

This LG came off with very good colors and needs little adjustments to make it a superb entry level TV. Not to mention that it's FULL HD!

Panasonic 42X30 Plasma:

This may not be the best plasma Panasonic released but hands down...This is your best bet for an economical HD ready TV that is nearly unbeatable in the area of local cable and dvd.

HD movies look very good but don't expect it to have a very crisp HD definition when compared to a Sony 42 EX410. PS3 games look a bit dark and less defined but still works wonders.

Sony 42EX410:

This is the TV I'll end up with, if and when I'd be shopping for an economical "big" screen TV. Superb colors, good blacks, fast input response time, and it even has good screen uniformity for a non plasma based unit.

Want the best bang for HD movies and video games with price factors well in mind?  Look no further!

More recommendations to come...

Got the LG32LK450 for the office from SnS. Its 17.5K cash! What can I say, a full Hd for the price of an Hd ready and it can play mkv sans DTS. Bang for the buck for would be first time owners!

I think 32C3 is already discontinued..does the 32C4 match the 32C3 in terms of PQ?

If not then I'll check the LG..thanks sir Carlo

No I'm sorry, C4 has dated picture quality which is bright and colors appear to be washed out. Plus it only has one HDMI input.

More recommendations:

LG 42LW5000:

Very good and well priced 3-D TV, pictures are crisp, vibrant and blacks are just competent for the technology. Includes a number of funky motion handling tricks (if that's your thing ;)) like truemotion. We prefer to keep them off though...but if you're in the market for a cost effective 3-D TV this is a good way to start going dimensional...3 dimensional :D

Entry level 32 inch LED TVs:

A number of past PMs delve into questions regarding the better 32 inch entry level LED TVs. Though I'm not overly impressed by them, here are some models you guys may want to check...

Panasonic 32X30:

Colors are very good and the over-all picture definition is pleasing to the eye. However, this fast moving IPS-Alpha LED panel has some glaring corner bleeds that may turn you off (not that bad though). I believe this is also above the 20k mark in price...please check with your local dealers.

Toshiba 32AL10:

Another edge LED entry level TV, that has good blacks and this one has better screen uniformity than the X30 from Panasonic. Colors are a bit over saturated out of the box and the red push was just strong. Calibration is a must for this TV.

Oh the 3-D plasma?

Let's put it this way...The Sammy 3-D plasma has better colors but the sharp "crispiness" of the LG wins over the Samsung.

It now boils down to personal preference, since I prefer my 3-D movies with that punchy sharpness, I'd go for the LG for this round ;)
