Do you have Media Player Classic Home Cinema on your PC?

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpc-hc/

I think it includes Media Info, the program that shows the video file specs.  Very convenient --- all you have to do is right-click on the video file and select "Media Info".

If you have software that tells you the media info, you'll be able to figure out which files you should avoid.  Without it, you'll always be referring to your media file by title ---- and if you describe your media file as "Beijing Olympics," you're really not telling us anything.  ;)

for the london olympics, i dunno how it played, but after transferring about 5x it finally played

When you say transfering, does it mean you are moving it to a Flash drive and not streaming from a NAS?  I'm just curious because I own an old school Gen 1 WDTV and i encountered the same problem when I switched from one Flash drive to another, I refrained from using the problematic drive and never encountered the problem again.  Continue isolating the problem sir.  ;)

yes. im moving the files from the pc  to a hard drive. i dont play videos via streaming.. ive yet to set it up.

Does playing it from a different source work? I mean, instead of your hard drive try using something else, I'd hate to say it but I've crashed a hard drive too because of my stupidity of not ejecting it (I've read somehwere that this may have caused it, not 100% certain though).  It started by green pixels appearing all over the screen and then it just refused to work one day.

Now that's more like it!  Much better than just describing the file as "Beijing Olympics," no?  ;)

3 ReFRames is easy, so no problems with that.  But I'm suspicious about "[email protected]," since it sounds pretty high:

I'm no expert, and I don't even know what that spec means, so you should try googling if the WDTV SMP has any problems with Format profile [email protected].

hmmmm interesting... i did that just now and it did play in the other hdd.. so ill try to copy the working file into the hrd drive in question... maybe nga there are bad sectors on the hard drive?...

ill have to defrag this drive soon...

Magkakaroon ba ng bagong model ng WD TV Live soon? Hopefully, with a faster processor. Minsan, ang bagal eh.

Do you have a WD TV Live or a WD TV Live Streaming (Gen 3)?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WD_TV#Models

If you have the Live, mabagal talaga yan compared sa Live Streaming Gen 3.

But if your unit is already the Gen 3 Live Streaming, matatagalan pa bago magkaroon ng Gen 4, baka years pa ang aabutin.

Sigma 700 Mhz ang processor niyan, very high for a 2011 model.

AFAIK, the expensive models of 2012 like the Popcorn C300 ($350) are 800 Mhz.

May remote control app pala for Android and iOS. And YouTube is now a joy to browse!

For those with the new gen 3 WDTV Live:

Does the locally sold unit have Netflix?

Does digital audio out via optical pass both 5.1 and stereo audio without having to change settings?

Thanks!

No Netflix.  The geolocation check blocks Netflix in Asia.

Digital audio passes via optical as is.  If audio is encoded in 5.1, it passes as 5.1; if encoded in 2.0, it passes as 2.0 without need for any change in settings.

Something suddenly went wrong. My WDTV remote app suddenly could not detect my WDTV Live. I also can't stream videos fromy SGSIII to my WDTV Live all of a sudden.

I already powercycled both phone and WDTV Live. Everything else seems to work fine as my Buffalo Cloudstation still streams to my WDTV Live.

But for some reason, my Galaxy SIII and WDTV Live can't detect each other.

Will try again later with the wife's iPhone and Galaxy Note.

Sir this happened to me on my Goflex TV/iphone/ipad, I had to reboot my cable modem and router.  Is that what you meant when you said you power cycled both phone and WDTV live?

I experienced this once, after a reformat of my Windows 7 PC.  I forgot that the WORKGROUP names should be the same.  I changed the default name on the PC, then the WD internet didn't work, and the WD remote on my Samsung phone wouldn't work.  PC hard disc can't be accessed by the WD, but WD hard disc can be accessed by the PC.

I changed the workgroup name on the PC back to the default name WORKGROUP so that the WD and the PC were both using the same name, and everything went back to normal.

I may have a different problem since everything else works. My PC detects the WDTV Live and vice versa. Same with my Buffalo Cloudstation.

There might be a bug on the WD firmware.  Have you tried other WD firmware versions?

Somebody suggested cleaning the cache.  I don't know if it worked:

Ah thanks bro. But too much of a hassle eh. It's not really a deal-breaker. I can still stream videos from my phone to my PS3 anyway.

I'll just wait for the next firmware update.

Ayus!

Sir Barrister, because of this forum, I decided to acquire this 2011 model and it will be arriving tonight from Dubai.  I have read most of the forum on this pdvd including those for other models and thereafter, since I am not a techie, I am just a plain user, I chose this unit  dahil  "pang simpleng gamit lang" as you said BUT I WANT TO ASK YOU THIS QUESTION:   oK lang ba kung gagamitin ko na lang even without updating its firmware?  Smooth din ba ang performance O TALAGANG DAPAT MAGUPDATE NG FIRMWARE?  Your reply will help me on this new unit, thanks
