Warner Home Video announced the Region 1 DVD release of L.A. Confidential (2-Disc Special Edition) on 23rd September 2008 priced at $20.97 SRP. Directed by Curtis Hanson and based on James Ellroy’s “L.A. Quartet” series of novels, L.A. Confidential was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, winning two (Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Kim Basinger). The evocative and sordid tale of Hollywood in days gone by boasts an all-star cast which, in addition to Basinger, includes Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey, Danny Devito, Guy Pearce and James Cromwell. The plot, involving three cops, a call girl, a mysterious millionaire and a tabloid journalist, is rife with mystery, ambition, romance and humor.

Why did they have to give a big part of the cover to Kim? She had a smaller part compared to Guy Pierce or Russel Crowe.

Probably because she won an Oscar for this.

there doesn't seem to be anything worth buying this for. Not for me at least. Maybe if I hadn't already seen the "LA Confidential" TV pilot with Kiefer Sutherland I would have, but I've already seen it.

At that time, Kim made such an impact on that movie which eventually won her an Oscar for Supporting Actress. All the cast made their mark as well on the film but it was Ms. Basinger who stands out thereby cementing her as a 'made' actress when she got numerous acting awards, Golden Globe and SAG. From being merely a bond girl in one of those 007 movies, to Elizabeth in 9 1/2 WEEKS and to Lynn Margaret Bracken in the above-mentioned film. I like the cover, it made a different perspective of the movie itself. Whenever I watch the movie, I'm still haunted by the fact that TITANIC won as Best Picture over this first-rate movie.
