Wireless Audio Streaming
« on: Feb 27, 2012 at 04:41 PM »
Hi,

Has anyone had any experience with this as an audio signal source?

Found this on the net and I wanted to try streaming audio from our Apple products via Bluetooth...

http://www.logitech.com/en-hk/speakers-audio/home-pc-speakers/devices/8087

SQ is always of paramount priority, but can be lenient about it as I'm more concerned with comfort and accessibility.

Cheers

Streaming over WiFi is superior, as you can transmit full quality audio with the right software.

Apple's BT implementation applies lossy compression on the audio data before transmission, afaik (as do most BT devices in the market). You can make bitpool adjustments if you want to optimize BT audio quality.

Thanks, I was so inspired by the last HiFi show. Most demo rooms boast of an iPad and a sort of BT receiver or whatever that it. But I only wanted to go wireless for convenience sake.

Controller lang yata nila yung tablet, Master Jojo. They use a separate music streamer/server to play the music. In that config kasi, you can play audio in full quality.

I agree, they're using the tablet as a glorified remote lang Brader.

Hay.... don't want to end up going with an Olive... yet.

Just a newbie in pdvd, but just giving inputs lang baka makatulong..
I have an onkyo 509, and downloaded an onkyo remote app for my android device. The app doesnt only serves as a remote control, but streams music as well. May difference talaga compared to playing from a cd player, pero ok na rin for the convinience na anywhere sa house, as long as the amp and my tab are connected to a wifi, panalo sa convinience. I just noticed na mas mataas ang volume ko when i use this, and i try to just get mp3 na mataas ang pagka rip  :)

Dont get me wrong, i was suprised na ok siya. There may be diff sa sq pero malinaw pa rin, i just have to turn up the volume a bit more. My place is quite small so anywhere i go na bitbit ko ang tab ko, ok ang signal. My isp is only bayantel na 1.5mbps. Tom Ill try na lumayo ng husto para humina signal that my tab gets n can send audio and see if it affects sq..

Naku hindi sir. Actually wala ako mapansing SQ loss when streaming flac files from my android phone to my Denon AVR compared to playing flac files with my NMT ;)

I use something like this:

iphone or ipad -->wifi-->airport express-->audio system

it sounds great, di na ako bumibili ng CD after that ahahahaha!!! basta maganda pagkaka-rip...

puwede ring maging ganito:

iphone or ipad -->wifi-->airport express-->DAC-->audio system
i'm guessing that this would be better  :)

great for parties kasi your guests can take turns playing their type of music

This is my configuration as well.  I dont know na how CD sounds because the last time I bought was probably in year 2005.  Hehehe.

This works like a charm indeed kaso, lintek na Apple still has issues with FLAC without prior conversion kaya hassle.

We've a Sony BT speaker thing up in our bedroom.  Range isn't very far but it works just fine for listening to music on one's phone.  Haven't tried wireless streaming.  Anyone know if there is an app for a Blackberry?

Apple portable devices do not support higher quality BT streaming formats as of the moment (like AptX), and neither does the Logitech Wireless Speaker Adapter.

The default SBC compression format isn't very efficient, and I suggest going for the highest reliable bitrate that you can run in your setup. That should at least keep SQ within acceptable bounds.

Good luck! :)

Ok bro, but it's nice to hear that at least it works for car audio. I just want something I can control my playlist with while I'm building stuff on my table... baka pwede na yan BT ano?

I assume you have this DLNA or have been using it already bro? Can you please educate me on how it works, what is needed too.

Thanks

Like I said, going the "audiophile" way will mean more work for me (transferring songs to a media server - again  ;D), plus my tablet will just be a glorified remote hahaha. I extremely appreciate your idea on this sir, good thing most music in my tablet will be in the 320ish bitrate.

Cheers!  :)

go for wifi na lang sir, given that your receiver supports that feature.
i've been streaming mp3 files from Xperia Play and Ipod Touch to an Onkyo 609 without issues.

Going to the wifi route.......similar to the following set-up

iphone or ipad -->wifi-->airport express-->DAC-->audio system

Is the airport express a necessity? If yes, any alternatives?

If you need to be fully compatible with apple products via airplay, an apple tv/mac computer/airport express serving as your music server is mandatory. You could replace it via airplay compatible amps like one from pioneer or micromega or you could buy the audiophile quality apple compatible streamers from naim, marantz, denon, cyrus and use their internal dac or an outboard one.

I'm pretty satisfied with my apple tv / airport express combo, as i only have 16/44 content and i just tinker with the source and dac and amp side. M using the apple tv mated to a fostex 32bit dac and wireless streaming is as good as it gets for me.

If you already have an apple device, an airport express is the most cost effective solution actually (@4.5k). Di nga lang audiophile, pero if you use the optical out, the output is bit perfect, according to a test by Stereophile some years back. DAC and amp na lang ang problema mo.  ;D

BT can be reasonable if you can increase the rate reliably. Kung may demo unit, test mo siguro muna. :)

I saw a nad Dac that had wireless capabilities.

Usb dongle goes to your laptop or mac, dac is connected to the amp.

The DAC if my memmory serves me right, has two 192/24 DACs (burr brown, ndi ko na ma alala :D).

Although wireless, medio hassle if bit bit mo yung laptop mo, pero it was a nice try ng NAD. :D

SQ was ok, I asked it to be paired with a NAD 326bee + psb bookshelf speakers playing Adelle's "Rolling in the deep"... I found it to be slightly bright, but generally ok.

Price then I think was 12k.

cheers  ;D
