Question on the Onkyo HT-S3400
« on: Apr 11, 2012 at 09:27 AM »
Masters,

I intend to purchase an Onkyo HT-S3400 soon.  But I have some questions that I hope someone can help me on:

1.  Does the HDMI inputs also allow for audio?  I know the new receivers should be able to handle it but I just want to make sure.  I don't want to have optical cables running around at the back of the amp as much as possible.

2.  I intend to place the HTiB in my den which is roughly just 10-12 sqm.  It is overlooking my garden.  I intend to place a couple of weatherproof speakers outside so I can pipe music outside when needed.  Reading the manual, I should be able to do this by placing the speaker feeds into Front B speakers in the amp right?  Anyone can suggest what would be a budget friendly pair of weatherproof speakers?  I have only seen Polk Atriums locally available but they go for 10k a pair.

Thanks for reading.... ;-)

stay away sa htib hahaha..

i used onkyo hitb as well a month ago

if you will use it for audio it is possible but the sound is crappyness - you need to upgrade the fronts - but maybe its just me

That's right sir, I have heard those comments before.  But I was thinking with such a small room, I didn't want to invest too much on getting an expensive setup.

In the future I was thinking of upgrading the fronts, if my ears don't like what I hear when it comes to music.  But I wasn't sure if I need optical cables to pass audio signals or does the HDMI input cover audio as well?

When I have enough money saved up and willing to spend, I will work on my movie room (36 sqm) setup in the attic.  That's where I would start spending more....

Sarap mangarap....but the attic room would have a 7.1 setup and something at the level of an Onkyo 609 or better, 3 seater reclining sofa, fully carpeted, projector or a big LED TV.... pero no budget for that right now. hehehe

hi sir good guy, I think this thread will help you find good polk audio atriums 2nd hand. You might be interested with the receivers as well:

Tama si sir raider, baka in a few weeks upgrade ka na lalo na when you browse pdvd.
I would also suggest getting the gears piece by piece as your budget permits and get the ones that you think would overcome the itch...kailangan lang talaga nakacaladryl dito kasi kahit nakabuo na nangangati pa rin ;D

Maraming salamat mga masters.  Your inputs are well received.... hehehe, yun nga din sana isip ko. Bilhin na lang yung HT setup piece by piece.  Nakakainip nga lang. :-)

I also have a 3400, very satisfied with it for movies so far, which was the intention when I bought it. It's not really being used for music so I cannot give much input on that. What they are saying are correct, HT is just like any other hobby, you can have enjoyment in upgrading and in using your equipment. It's really up to you on how far you'll go, PDVD will just be here as a 'good influence'.  ;)

yeah... i would think this will be used 70% on movies. 20% for games and 10% for music.  Glad to know the 3400 is good for movies. isip isip! hehehe

i have onkyo htib (hts5300) as the term says "home theater in a box" mainly use for watching movies.
so far my family enjoyed watching movies and playing ps3 games.

ang problema eh ako, hindi ko masyado nagustuhan ang sq sa musics pero ako lang naman ang nakaka puna.
in the end hindi ko namalayan may SARS na pala ko. :D

after long 4 months time nabuo ko rin ang system ko for playing music:
- dec.'11 bought a pre owned onkyo stereo component from reymer
- bought a pre owned rti a1
- last week added a brand new sub (dsw pro 400)
LG 47LA7400 / SAM UA40EH5000
Onkyo HT-S5300 / A-922M stereo set
Polk RTI A3 / dsw pro 400
PS3

pwede na kaya ang onkyo hts-3400 na "pantawid-gutom"?  if ever kukuha ako nito, plano ko palitan yung speakers/ sub, at i-retain ang receiver nito. ano sa palagay nyo?  ::)

Kahit na high end na HTIB yan if alang upgrade option ang AVR hindi maganda why not get to the separates na like mo para pang matagalan na iwas SARS.  ;D ;D ;D

you can bro like what i did. kahit walang sub out, u can connect the sub directly from the receivers speaker terminal. Big improvement ng s3400 ko after the upgrade.
