I have a similar speaker, the Audience 42... and then I felt the same way you are feeling right now, I was getting bass-hungry. I was on the verge of selling these babies for dirt cheap, good thing nobody took it beacuse
I WOULD HAVE REGRETTED IT!. I was actually contemplating on getting bigger bookshelves such as the Aon3 or the Studiomonitor 65. Their bass rads appealed to me because they are marketed as good, budget, bass-y bookies.
And then I added a sub a few days ago just for the heck of it, an SVS SB12-NSD. Initial purpose of this move was to save me money. So rather than buy new speakers, i just added a sub. This is really killer man, I'm not saying the kind of bass you hear at clubs/bars but real mature bass for good mature music. Listening to Carlo and the Band's live cover of Nature Boy just got more 'realistic', it gave it the ambience that you hear when you are in a gig (I should know, I play a few gigs myself). The kick bass for the live version of Hotel California has a realistic punch (I'm a drummer, I adjust kits when on gigs). And for some reason also, human voices seemed warmer too. I could now follow the playful basslines of my favorite bass player Colin Edwin and I found out the emotional side of his playful ways. I mean, its a deeper musical understanding of my favorite tracks, man!
What I am trying to say here is that a properly integrated sub will greatly benefit your setup. I dont even play that loud, if dB's your concern. The X12/A42 sound big on their own but there's a lot of musical details down there in the freq. range to be enjoyed and it doesn't need to be played loud at all.
