OKC just threw out their championship bid because they want to save money. This will piss off their fanbase. This is a total opposite of what the Lakers just did this off season.

The Lakers now have a clear path towards the finals if they get their act straight plus the fact that they have the kyptonite of Miami which is a very talented and big frontline.

Iffy trade by OKC ..... OKC's management could've played Harden this season (very much likely contended deep again) and just sign-and-trade him after this season.

It's clear though - OKC's owners do not want to breach a target $$$ team salary, to avoid paying the more punishing luxury tax of the new CBA.

Well at the very least, they got good returns for Harden ...... a decent scorer in Kevin Martin + good rookie prospect Lamb + 2-1st round picks.

Weeks ago, when the LAKERS acquired Nash & Howard ..... I still picked OKC as the top seed in the West.

With Harden's departure, it's likely that OKC drops a few notches out West.

Not really a bad deal for OKC. They get a good scorer in Martin, Lamb and most-importantly, draft picks.

i also think it was a good deal for okc.as long as durant and westbrook are there they would still be a contender.it looks like harden wanted to be a starter.martin is a very good scorer but didnt prosper bcoz of mchale.okc is still the team to beat in the west.

If Martin is that good of a player then I wonder why it's his 3rd Team in a span of 4 years. Harden is an all star caliber player and he was traded for scraps. Durant and Westbrook are their top guns however it was Harden that made them very difficult to beat. Durant can't do it alone so Westbrook now needs to be more consistent than ever in order for OKC to get back to the finals.

Somewhere out there the SAS and LAL fans are rejoicing. Miami doesn't give a crap about the OKC changes because they beat OKC fair and square with Harden in the lineup.

Martin's a good player but he's not as privileged to play in a "popular" team coming from Sacramento then to Houston. What exactly does Harden do for OKC which a known scorer like Martin can't do? Dude averaged 18ppg his whole career and had mid 20 averages. If that's not enough to fill the void Harden left, then I dunno what is.

Saying pa din if you think about it. They had the chance to truly create history this year but for the difference of 5million dollars they decided to part ways.

Kung si Prok yan or si Buss the decision will be over in a heartbeat. Such is the story of the haves and have nots in the NBA.

Such is the very clear reality of small-market teams in the NBA ..... if you want to load-up, you have to pay-up & take the tax hit.

In OKC's case, they would have given the max-offer to Harden ..... it's the resulting luxury tax (from the new CBA) which ownership cannot afford.

Okc lost a defender, not elite but he is a decent perimeter defensive player.. Martin is a pure scorer.. Maybe okc wants to show that outside durant all is expendable.. Kaya lang bakit sa western team, baka makaharap pa nila sa playoffs..
The Pats way...

Lakers has a $250M tv deal.  What do the OKC have...15M.....

In the end Presti stayed true to his principle, if you want to stay in OKC, you have to take less.   KD did.  Westbrook did...so did Obaka.

I'm on the side which thinks this is a bad deal for OKC, considering that they could have kept their core of homegrown players intact for another run at the title this year, and just deal with the Harden issue at the end of the season. Sure they got nice pieces for the long term, but those are pieces you need if you're rebuilding. OKC is in a "win now" situation, and they had the momentum and weapons to do so as WC favorites. They lost a lot in terms of chemistry (and morale, I suppose) at a crucial stage in the franchise's growth. If they don't make the Finals this year, it could be messy...

As for Harden, I understand that he could have sacrificed "a little" to stay with the Thunder and a real shot at a ring. Well now, he becomes the starting SG for a team that has an unpredictable coach and is not expected to make the playoffs this year.  :P

Short term prospect it looks like OKC got the lesser end of the deal.  But in the long run, I believe OKC will end up the winner.  I like the potential of Jeremy Lamb. He has the potential to be a consistent all star player.

My reading on Harden is that right now, he has reached his ceiling. What you're seeing right now is the best you're gonna get. Lamb potentially has a higher ceiling. With Martin, it gives OKC time to let Lamb develop while still having a scorer in place at the SG position.

Agree on the fact that they could have given it 1 more year then renegotiate. He will play his heart out since its a contract year. They could have dealt other players in mid season like Perk or Maynor in order to navigate away from paying the luxury tax while signing harden the max deal. Sayang talaga yung triumvirate nila. That is a very deadly offensive trio which is something that probably 95% of all NBA teams doesn't have.

From yahoo sports: "Harden struggled in the NBA Finals, tried too hard and slowly, surely unraveled over the course of the series. When the rest of the Thunder were celebrating a Game 1 victory over Miami in the locker room, Harden could be heard grumbling over too few shots (five), and too few minutes (22).
Veterans Derek Fisher and Perkins laid into Harden, telling him essentially: We just won an NBA Finals game and the last thing in the world that ought to worry you are your individual statistics. Harden apologized, but it was clear his mindset wasn't right. He never found his way back into a proper rhythm in the Finals.

he's not even yet tested outside the shadows of Durant and Westbrook, struggled in the NBA Finals and he wants a max extension of $60 mil for 4 years? OKC was right in letting him go and trading him to the Houston for Kevin Martin, Lamb and draft picks. At least for Martin, he's already tested as a scorer albeit in struggling teams but still, i think he's more sound than Harden.

i've always seen harden as an overrated player. people give him too much props. if everyone would just put on their reality glasses on, they would see that James Harden is nothing more than what Jason Terry was. Good talent but not quite good enough to be the franchise player. Harden will be like what Jason Terry was when he was with the Hawks.

The OKC Thunder got a sweet deal for a player who wanted a larger piece of the pie.

PS: I hate his stupid beard. and his flop after that World Peace elbow.  O0

In fairness to Harden, that MWP elbow is legit and very solid. Try slapping your nape with your hand and it hurts like hell. I can't even imagine how painful an elbow strike would feel.

More spacing for OKC I think. K.Mart is a good scorer off the bench.

More space for KD and Westbrook.

it wasn't the elbow that connected but the tricep. i'd understand if it was the actual elbow because that's bone connecting to your nape. kept replaying the video and i saw Harden peeping as if to check if the referee was buying his acting. besides, it wasn't the first time he flopped due to an elbow.

Harden did nothing in the finals, I would understand him not scoring his usual as even the best players in the league may falter but defense is always there if your head is in the game. I dont think he also did well in defense during the finals, short success has gotten to his head, perfect recipe for disaster ang pinapakita ni Harden, wala pang napapatunayan eh lumaki na agad ulo.

kawawa naman si james harden, nabanatan sa ating forum :) what i like about him was what he lacked in skills, he made up with smarts. he takes charges, draws shooting fouls a lot, can play multiple positions(sg, pg and sf), and he has one of the best true shooting percentages out there. If I have time to join the fantasy league, I'll definitely draft him.
