I'd still go for a Yamaha 1300/2300. :)

mind telling us why?

192khz DACs; higher wattage than the models 1200,2200,3200; 2 zones; the number of I/O terminals, number of DSPs, the clean look.  :)
And with the 3300, it remembers different volume settings for different inputs, like say a different volume for DVDs and another for CDs.

Aside from the specs, I still have to see a major problem with Yamaha receivers.

Checking around, you'll see some brands with big problems with certain series.
As someone had told me when I was still a newbie: "if you want to be sure, get a Yamaha, di ka magkakamali dun".  :)

Are the models (1300,2300,3300) out yet locally?
Last I asked wala pa daw balita.  :-\

Available na tong mga to..nakita ko sa Park square 1.. :P :P

Considering the price range, I suggest you audition the ff. brand new models at Spectra in Parksquare:

1. Denon AVR-1603 at P18.5T
2. Yamaha RX-V430 at P15.0T
3. Harman Kardon AVR 1550 at P16.0T

I personally use the Denon and I'm very happy with it, clean and rich sound.  A friend of mine has the Yamaha and it sounds great too, natural and powerful.  I heard the Harman Kardon only recently and it sounded great with Mission speakers, rich and warm (I understand you will be matching them with Missions).  It depends on your taste and what you'll be using them for.  If you're more into movies, get the Yamaha.  If you're more into music/concerts, choose between the Denon and the Harman Kardon.

tnx man, ifinally decided to get the denon 1803, price wise yamaha 730 is much more expensive and dts-es compatible lang sya, while the denon 1803 is 6.1 discreet. i demo both unit and both sounded great in movies more or less. and most importantly it match my b&w 601s2 speakers.

U571
lotr
gladiator (R1)
T2
Blade 2

Hi.  I'm just beginning to put together my HT.  Been doing a lot of research, looking around and a little testing.  I have to save up first, but I'm looking for an in-between reciever.  Something that plays good music and good HT.  I've tried out the Onkyo SR600 and the Yamaha RXV-630.  Yamaha sounds really good for movies cuz its nice and bright, but hurts on the ears when you listen to music.  The Onkyo on the other hand sounds better for music as its a bit warmer or neutral.  I haven't tested the Denon 1803 yet though.

I was wondering if any of you have comments about the Onkyo SR700.  Also if you have any comments about the Onkyo SR600 against the Denon 1803.

bundy,

When i'm trying to set up my HT i compared SR600, SR700, Denon 1603(1803 is not yet available that time) and RXV630. I go with SR700 because it is more warm on music and higher power which gives more punch to movies. My preference is 50/50 music/movies. I think you also have to consider your speakers(sensitivity) if they match with your receiver(power output-watts). But, these are just technical specification. What is important is the sound that comes out from the total system that fits your own preference. Take time to test the whole system side by side with your other choices. From there you will be able to decide what you like.

SR700 is the best from the choices that emm mentioned... of course, it is also the most expensive... but if you have dough to spend, spend it on SR800 or NR900....  :D

Hey emm, thanks for the sound advice.  I will consider that when I'm looking around.  I'm actually leaning towards the SR700 cuz it puts a premium on music with the Pure Audio function.  I'm also planning to setup my system as a 50/50 movies and music.  Thanks for all the other suggestions too people.  I'll be taking a lot of time to really research this and get what suits my needs the best.

checkout the denon thread. a lot of good reviews on the 1803

I think ang katapat ng Yamaha 1200/1300 is the Denon 2802 (2803 may be coming out in a few months).

Yung 1803 is probably equivalent to the 730 series of the Yamaha. :)

Courage,
DTS-ES Compatible (Matrixed) lang yung Marantz SR5200. I think the newer model SR5300 is already DTS-ES Discrete na.
