Most Bluray discs don't take advantage of the full bandwidth allowed by the BD spec (54Mbit/sec). This space-saving method by film companies make the material easier to stream. However, a 100Mbps half-duplex ethernet infrastructure might not have enough real throughput to support a file encoded at the maximum BD bitrate (when you take away negotiation latency and protocol/data overhead, you might be left with much less than the theoretical bandwidth), especially if there are other intensive network activities.
That's the reason why I mentioned the bandwidth factor. Some brands based on the same chipset actually have a streaming disclaimer in the manual (Astone is one example). Streaming is of course, a neater way of handling data (you can hide the nas out of sight).
Just my tuppence worth.
