Problem Reading Files from WD 1TB HDD 3.0 on LG LE5500
« on: Jun 10, 2013 at 10:52 PM »
WD 1TB HDD is 3.0 while LG LE5500's USB is 2.0.  When I plug in the HDD to the USB of the LED tv, it loads for a few seconds but doesn't proceed.

I've read in some forums that there're two possible reasons for this:

1)  WD 1TB HDD 3.0 must be in exFAT32 format.  However, this didn't work for others.
2)  WD 1TB HDD 3.0 cannot be played on a LCD/LED TV with USB 2.0.

Given this, what're my options?  Can a NMT solve this issue?

Appreciate any inputs! New to NMTs.  TIA!

USB 3.0 is backward compatible to USB 2.0, it will work under the maximum speed of the 2.0.

exFAT32 may not be supported by LG.

Some solution:
1. Update the firmware of the TV
2. Buy a NMT or Media Player

Hi Raider.  LG iyung LED TV ko.  NTFS ang format.  The thing is, the TV can read USB sticks na 2.0 in FAT32 format.

Thanks for the advice Philander.  Tried to download the firmware update for my LED TV but couldn't install it.  Might consider the 2nd option.  Gusto ko sana may streaming internet din so that you can watch videos from youtube.  Any suggestions?

I don't think there's an issue with the usb of the TV kasi it can read USB 16GB sticks na 2.0.

You cannot use a USB flash drive to gauge the compatibility of a 1TB USB 3.0 external HDD.

Try ka muna ng ibang external HDD na USB2.0.  Somehow mas mataas ang reliability ng USB2.0 kapag directly connected sa TV - even sa PCs, some external connectors would instruct you to connect sa USB2.0 first then install the driver and then tsaka palang connect sa USB3.0

Anyways, yung compatibility ng external USB3.0 drives to a particular make and model ng HDTV is still rather gray.  Sa Japan, they mention sa label ng external HDDs which TV makers are confirmed to be compatible - if not mentioned - no guarantee of working.

Good luck

One question nga pala, is that a portable bus-powered 1TB USB3.0 or a full sized self-powered 3.5" 1TB USB3.0?  If portable bus-powered lang, malamang hindi enough ang current supply from the USB port ng TV mo kaya hindi matuloy ang initialization - solution is very simple - connect a POWERED USB hub sa TV and doon ka mag-connect sa hub na yon.

Have you tried other portable HDD like 500GB? Wala naman mawawala chief if we will isolate by using other HDD powered or self powered para makita natin ang issue.  ;)

As per clondalkin USB powered ba yan or self powered to the outlet?

I also the current draw of your 1tb exceeds the tv's usb port capacity to power it up properly.

..don't use a long USB extension cable..it will cause a voltage drop power supply to your external HDD..
