Amps for HTIB speakers
« on: Jan 06, 2013 at 05:23 PM »
Good day all,

Ive got a busted old HTIB (Philips DVD home theater system LX3700D) but the speakers are still working.

Basing on the spec sheet, the orig player sends a max 50RMS/channel. And the speakers Impedance is 8 Ω.

Would anyone know what amplifiers or receiver i can use to connect this to. Hopefully something cheap. Im planning to use this with a WD TV Live.

Thanks in advanced! :)

you can use any entry-level receiver. just set the crossovers high enough to prevent overdriving the htib speakers.

and an active sub of course if yours is passive.

get an entry receiver like the Onkyo NR-313, Yamaha 373, Pioneer 521, or Harman Kardon AVR 70.  :)

How about those that are being sold in malls? Yung mga tag 3k++ lang? Pero sabi nila malakas daw yun masyado kasi minimum 300watts daw yun. :(

Pasensya na po as the budget is really limited. :(

That's going to be too loud and may bust your speakers.  Those with a 3K price tag can be easily found in Raon for equal or a bit lower.  Try a Sakura hybrid vacuum tube integrated amplifier.  Price is about 3.5 to 4k or so.

Don't believe what they say, that's more likely the PMPO while the RMS is below 50w.  But even so, just bring down the volume level.  My power amp is rated at 250w RMS per channel and my speakers are only 120w max each. But I usually listen just at a fifth-quarter of the volume level. An underpowered speaker is more problematic than an overpowered one.

It will really bust your speakers!
Your philips is typically cut off at 180Hz to the satellite. Feeding it with full frequency spectrum can burst open your speakers!

Dont buy that hybrid tube for your Philips speakers - you will just waste your money!

I suggest buy another HTIB. If the budget is tight, haggle it down. The buy and sell section has Z220 being sold for 5k. that is 800w rms (125W rms per ch at 3 ohms). it will be able to bring your Philips (at 8 ohms) back to life at 55W rms per speaker!

i wouldn't believe that incredible power output from a htib. even most full size mid-level receivers can't output that much power.

+1000 to Mark's comment.

For a good assessment on what it can put out take a look at the current draw the HTIB makes on the instruction manual or at the voltage specs on the back of the unit. If its current draw is 50watts then there is no way that it can churn out 800watts but on hindsight the manufacturer can bloat those printed figures as well.

power measurement is not about believism - my friend. you've got to measure it! You have to hear it. This is not religion per se.

IF you are in doubt - test it.

Size of your typical AVR will not be able to output that of course - since they still use the class AB topology - with your typical EI core power supply.

But it does not follow the HTIB I mention will put out less power than your conventional wisdom and cheap dig! :-)

Would you believe the amp has wimpy heat sink ? ha ha ha - it is driving my Bohlender X3 / X1 in surround mode!

I have the TDA-8950, would you know how much power it can deliver, given the size of the heat sink?

Lastly, 800 watts is not incredible nowadays. How about 1000W RMS HTIB? Super Incredible? Where are you this past years?

Another one bite the dust! Even your typical decent AVR do bloat their power - or just did not disclose the true condition of the 5.0 power.

I own AVR before and I can bring them to clipping (just the heck of it). But Z210, am afraid my speaker is already shouting clean beyond my ears tolerance - inviting the unknown. And the price of Z210 before brand new - measly 5K!

Baka 'kala mo di ko alam amp - I also use NEC monoblocks and Yamaha class-A

O para wag tularan ang mga di alam ang mga pinagsasasabi basahin at sagutin ang mga katanungan:

http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,42708.1410.html

Gaano kalaki yung amp? Use your palm as reference (he he he)
Ano ang mas malaki - yung transformer o yung amplifier with PS converter?
Gaano kalakas ang RMS power ng amp at gaano kalaki ang heat sink nya?
Eh kung palitan mo kaya ng digital PSU?

These people? tsk tsk tsk! Magaling gumawa ng ingay - maingay lang.

My 1000-W RMS HTIB is a different animal  8)

Total system weighs 40kg!!!

140W RMS per channel - but you've got to read POWER SHIFT amplifiers  ;D
300W to the sub - read MOSFET drivers  ;) driving 10inch sub
Got the whole system for P 2.4k (can you dig that)!

I will not argue with you on the speaker - they are typically trash! Sorry, di pala trash, treasure sa mga bumili - final cost to my HTIB amp - P1k!!!  :o

JVC TH-C9. PM me if you want to get a glimpse of the circuit diagram! Will include to you the amplifiers used for the 5 satellite channels!

P.S. Can you guess the size? Don't do that, just read!

I bet it sound glorious to be pummeled by 70 watts per channel at 8 ohms with 10% noise bundled in at all 5 channels but if it sounds as the ultimate for others then what can I say....
