This is one of the best new shows for me this year--it's basically
CSI: Whitechapel 1889, but also with good writing and exceptional performances by the cast. Matthew Macfadyen, last seen on the big screen as one of
The Three Musketeers, provides a commanding presence as his true-to-life character, Detective Inspector Edmund Reid, and he's ably supported by an outstanding cast as well.
I really like the way the production went all out with the details; from the sepia tones to the costumes and props. The cockney accents are unavoidable--it is the East End after all, but they're quite easy to understand.
