Parang di naman washed out ang colors when we tested it here sa house.

it was projected to a screen in your house. ;)

Tried DIY based from projectorcentral to paint smoothened plywood using pure white "satin-finish" paint - Mas nagiging "grainy" and had severe hotspotting.

Then I came across DIY screen silverfire V.2 sa AVSforum, I tried to copy the concept behind the famed formula and here's what I got: (red-green-blue-yellow tinting colors in 50ml, 25ml, 16ml & 9ml combination) added to a base paint combination of 40% neutral satin with 60% flat white. The result was awesome and the colors had more "pop".The overall brightness of the image was so even that I cant see hotspotting even with movies with very high brightness (i.e. happy feet). The blacks were much blacker and because of the R-G-B-Y tinting paint, the colors are more brilliant.

For comparison, on a separate plywood I painted a flat white plus black tint (to produce the same gray tint) and the result was no way near this "SF V.2". Colors are dull and the whites are darker though it has a very slight advantage on the black level because of the black tint.

I was so impressed with the results that I ordered the original paints from Amazon used on the original SF V.2(i.e.RustOleum Metallic Pearl white Accents; Liquitex Basics Acrylics) to see whether I'll be able to get a much better picture quality. Will update sa forum once the original paints arrive in 4-6 weeks.

Latest update from Forexworld: Spilled daw ung RustOleum metallic pearl white accents. So pinapareplace ko sa Amazon. I think this one is the missing ingredient na wala sa formula ko, walang metallic paint available dito Pinas na water-based for walls. You can do DIY mga sirs (base paint: neutral satin+white) and tinting colors (RGBY) and filtered water. Apply in very, very thin coatings up to 5-6 coats (add more water), If masyado concentrated ung paint hindi ganon ka-balanced ung texture ng screen. After ~1.5 hrs, you can scrub the screen with damp chamois (automotive) to remove excess paint before applying another coat .

It was very good screen for my H6510BD. I'll also try the RS-MaxxMudd V.2 Mix once the materials arrive.

hi guys,

finally got to try several 3D movies yesterday. And I have to say, I'm all the more happy with my purchase! Watching 3D in 100inches is so much better than watching it on those 42" TVs na ka presyo nitong projector na to!

Good thing my Xtreamer can play those half-SBS formats!

ubusan na naman ng bandwidth to para mag download ng 3D! hehe  O0

Sir how do you play 3D SBS?  Do you need to enable some settings on the PJ? I tried playing some SBS on my friend's PJ with my Measy X5. When the movie was playing, there was no option in the Measy menu to convert the SBS to 3D.  Sa PJ naman nakalagay 3D, 2D to 3D conversion, 3D resync.  All of those options didn't convert my SBS movies to the output that was expected.

Hi, I'm new in the projector scene and looking at this projector. Wala ako alam sa projectors hehe. I will be putting it in my bedroom. My viewing distance is around 9 to 10 feet. I plan to put the projector around my viewing distance. Couple of questions

1, I don't like watching in the dark. Can I watch this with the full lights on? How about just a couple of ambient light in the back? Is this ok?

2. How big of a screen should I buy. 84 inches ok? Or can I go 90 to 100?

3. My walls and ceiling are all white.

Should I go for this? This will save me a lot of money rather going the led way (70 to 75 inches)

Thanks

You need a dark room, ideally black. Pero since your room is basically white, liliwanag din yan when you use your projector. Makikita mo pa din mga walls and tables mo etc. You PJ would give you more than ambient light. Kung galing ka sa mga panel display, i suggest you start with a 100" screen. Mag-DIY ka muna ng screen using plywood. Lakihan mo na, mga 125". Kung papaliitin mo, you can cover the borders with felt naman.

try nyo dto sir. For me, try nyo muna e project un PJ and try to zoom in and out til makuha nyo ang perfect size for u and dun na kau maka decide anong size comfortable sa eyes mo.

Ideal talaga ay dark room pero with controlled lights at the back, pwd na un IMO like isang maliit na  lamp shades. Dark paint is also a plus.

1. No, viewing with full lights on will make the image washed out. A couple of lights on at the back will still cause washed out images. A DIY screen can combat ambient light, but not that much. Dont worry about watching in total darkness since this PJ is a light canon, it can still lit your room even with the lights off.

2. at 9 -10 ft viewing distance, 90-100" would be just fine.

3. white ceiling & walls will also contribute to washed out images, start with dark curtains for the wall (i.e. maroon, dark blue curtains).

Should you go for it? depends on you, audition 1st other member's set up before buying, saves money.

So puede pa ako mag pj? kahit very bright room ko? I have no choice but to put it in our bedroom, kasi condo lang ako. Kasi I plan to keep my led tv then I will have a motorized screen that can roll down in front of the tv. So I will not be doing the diy screen (yun plywood). I already talked to listen up in glorietta about an motorized 84 inch screen. He said kung mag 90 to 100 ako, maging malabo na daw yun picture. But I have to check daw the specs of the projector first.

Ok I can use the 70 by 70 tripod na free and test it out, once I buy the projector. Problem talaga is, What if my room is too bright bec. of the walls and I don't like it, eh nabili na yun projector hehe..

@ Moks

baka your light walls will not matter that much if your screen will still have some ample space away from the wall.

my ceiling is white but it does not cause a problem. my screen is about 1 foot lower than the ceiling and about a foot off the walls on the side.

you need to find a way though to control or lower the amount of light entering the room.

This projector is capable of handling some ambient light but it's still best to keep it at a minimum.

Well, I got this pj tod hehe, I'm just playing around with it so far. ;D

Question naman pls., I have a 3d bluray player already, a pioneer bdp450 with two hdmi's. I send one hdmi to the pj and one to my Onkyo 608 receiver. I tried playing a couple of 3d movies but it just goes blank. It keeps saying "signal processing, pls wait" What am I doing wrong? On regular blurays all of them played fine. btw I have a cdrking hdmi 1.4 cable. Thanks a lot.

Haha! Di nakatiis! Congrats bro!

If you are already fixated on a purchase, whatever others would say won't matter much.  You tend to be selective on the positive ones to affirm your purchase and somehow your brain blocks the negative ones. I'm also talking from experience.  O0 Enjoy your PJ!
