Which one? under $1,000 1080p 2D/3D PJs
« on: Apr 17, 2013 at 01:14 PM »
Sirs,
Im currently looking out for a budget 1080p 2D/3D PJ preferably below $1,000. I did some research and found these 3 options: Viewsonic PJD7820HD ($720), Benq W1070 ($975) & Acer H6510BD ($800). Im relatively a newbie to PJs therefore I cant decide which one to buy. Besides the price, my 2nd concern would be better PQ and the black level.

Audition will be out of the question since I'll be buying from Amazon, so Im asking the gurus here for advice: Which one would be the better PJ? It will be used on a 8x5m, 8ft high bedroom with some ambient light coming from a small window.
Many Thanks!

I'd look at mitsubishi hc4000. I really liked that pj. I think it's around 1100 usd in amazon.

I have no idea about the Viewsonic's performance. but in the comparo done by Projectorcentral.com between the Acer H6510BD and the Benq W1070, the Benq has the slight edge in performance. (PQ and black levels) the Acer is a much brighter projector though. weigh your needs and consider which is more important to you. (PQ vs brightness)

Here in the PH, I'd consider the Acer because of local availability and support. :)

Thanks for the input Sir, I have narrowed down my options to the Acer and Benq. I'm slightly leaning towards the Acer due to ambient light in my bedroom (Acer reportedly is more brighter than the Benq). Fortunately my office mate had to undergo training in the US and she agreed to hand-carry the item for me. Still havent decided yet which one :-\

There's a lot of good reviews for the BenQ 1070 at the AVS forums. more than 100 pages of it. One drawback I got from it is the firmware update. It cannot be downloaded or flashed. you need to bring it to them and they are the only ones who can update it. If you get this make sure you get the latest firmware.

Yep I've also read about the rave of this Benq W1070 at AVS forum. Probably I'll pull the trigger on this one since papalapit na alis ofismate ko. The Acer H6510 has been silent sa AVS forum lately and wala ng available sa Amazon. Btw, Optoma also released the sub $1k PJ the HD25 (an upgrade to the HD33).

OT: Newegg has very good selections but they do not accept credit cards issued outside of the US pati paypal nila. (except sa ebay page which is very limited)  na frustrate lang ako last Black Friday. Amazon and Best Buy accepts it.

Optoma HD25, which sells just below $1000 is now available at Amazon, projector central has just recently released their review for this model. Based from reviews BenQ W1070 has a slight edge over the 2 other option (Acer and Optoma) with regards to PQ. AVS forum had 160++ pages and counting from satisfied users of this BenQ model.

if you're buying abroad or online, the Benq or the Optoma are better choices. but if you're buying locally, the Acer is still a good choice. you have local warranty and support. ;)

That is also my predicament, to buy online (cheaper price) or buy locally (for local warranty and support). I'm worried and not familiar where I can have the projector serviced in in case I have a problem in the future, or worse if I end up getting a "lemon" unit.

Does anyone here knows where we can have BenQ/Optoma projectors repaired in case there will be problems in the future? Any idea on costs of service check up?
