It's not that black and white.  Jerry West, Oscar Robertson and Julius Erving only had 1 title if I am not mistaken. But they are generally considered to be in the top 10 of all time.

Also the NBA's 50 greatest players in history include players with no rings.  Dapat ba palitan sa NBA 50 sina Malone, Stockton, Barkley, Baylor with Kerr, Horry, Michael Cooper, Ron Harper, Fisher, Will Purue?

what im talking chief is hindi sukatan ng impact mo sa laro yung mvp mo, kse may politics din dito eh. whre talking here of players who revolutionized the game. ska yung 50 greatest players, mga greats lahat, may impact sa laro, yung binangit mo eh bka greater players lang so hindi pasok sa criteria. ;D ;D  :D

Siyempre that's just how I see it. Others would say MVP, rings or stats is the be-all,end-all measurement of "galing".

Kaya mahirap talaga yung hypothetical pagalingan. yung comparisons.

anyway, break time konti:

I still did mention Dr. J, Oscar Robertson and Jerry West though....all revolutionized the game and all considered to be top 10 of all time.  Dapat ba it should be taken against them they only won 1 ring each?

No question all 3 made their mark and revolutionized the game.

Also 3 of those are Shaq's Championships. (He was the best player, parang Wade(sidekick) lang ni Lebron si Kobe ni Shaq nung 3 rings na yon).

haha

they both don't lift weights! Purely basketball training lang and no diet. Pau only did strength training after he was humiliated by Garnett in 2008 finals, I think. (he has big arms. I guess he does lift some weights)

As for Marc...I don't know. Mukhang malakas lumamon. haha

that is presicely my point chief, steve nash can have another two mvp and he is far from becoming a magic johnson. much more karl malone winning additional two and still not comparable to larry bird. we watch the game since then and we knew that it is much more difficult to play before than today. kaya uung accolades ngayon, half given, half earned! opinion ko lang chief :) :)

Ah ok.... naguluhan na yata ako.  Akala ko kasi the more championships you won, the greater you are ang intindi ko sa post mo....
tama bossing ;D
tsaka hindi sukatan ng galing kung ilang mvp ka meron.....its the champioship that youve won. si malone nga 2 eh wala namang championship. si nash wala din. si lbj 4 nga saka isat kalahating championship, yung padalawa...chamba eh ;D ;D ;D ;D

So I don't think wala pa yata as of yet can supplant yun place nila Dr. J, Big O and Mr. Clutch even if today's players have more than 1 ring.

ive said that for those players who made great impact sa laro. yung pwedeng maging GOAT.  coz i think pag hindi na usapin yung individual talents nila, it boils down on how many ring they have and how they have gotten it. most of the time kse chief, kung sino ang league leading dun kukunin yung mvp most of the time, kse nga naman stat base saka win loss record ang paramount.

I still think MVP counts sa resume ng player along with titles.  It cannot be titles alone. You cannot simply disregard the number of MVPs.  Lalo na if that player was not even the finals MVP.

A good comparison though is between Kobe and Tim Duncan. By virtue of 1 more title, is Kobe really better than Timmy?

Btw sa mga Lebron fans, here's a vid from 4 years ago.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTcvtN2ej50&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Great watch yang vid na yan. You can see that those two are good friends and they respect each other.

MVP kasi part-statistics, part-popularity contest. given two players who have virtually the same stats & same impact on the team for the year, sa tingin nyo yung mga boboto eh sino ang mas pipiliin niya? syempre yung player that he feels mas gusto nya personally. and sino ba yung mga bumuboto? sportswriters & broadcasters.

guys, just wondering lang. what if during the time of Bill Russel or Dr.J eh same ang media coverage ng NBA nung sa time ni MJ, sa tingin nyo eh sino ang magiging GOAT? media plays a big part din kasi in conditioning our minds, ang daming exposure ni MJ unlike kila Bill & Dr. J.

:D Yun initial write up kasi misleading.  But when the interview aired, iba naman pala yun context.  From what I recall basically Jordan said mas magaling si Lebron.  But he would choose Kobe for his 5 rings. Pero mas magaling pa rin si Lebron.   :D

Correct.  I'm sure may politika pa rin sa voting.  But a player must not be that overwhelmingly good and outstanding if he did not win the MVP.  Kasi kung ganun ka kagaling and dominating, pati haters mo would have no choice not to vote for you. :D  So kahit hate na hate mo yun player, if he was an overwhelming favorite, no choice.... you vote for that player.

This past season, Lebron was the clear cut MVP. he was both dominating and overwhelming.  Kaya talagang no choice sa MVP even if you hate him, you would vote for him.  At least 1 media person voted for Melo.

MJ pa rin tingin ko.  You only have to read the statistics, accolades, hardware, etc.  Kinda hard to make an argument against MJ when you read his resume.  Yun 2nd best player off all time na magkakatalo.  Given the same media exposure.....Russell might be second to Jordan.

russell time (8 consecutive champ :o) offense minded nba, talent pool was very low, zone defense. konti lang malalaki.
dr. j era also the era of kareem and the showtime lakers. tinangal na ang zone defense (1982)and this was the time the we were awed by  out of this world shot selection and poster dunks of julius rving. his greatest moments was with moses malone when they won the ring. the greatness of dr j was overshadowed by the showtime lakers celtics rivalry. until the bad boy piston came along and showed to us that defense can win championship too. and  every team from then on, focused on defense. this was the time of michael jordan, when the nba is allowing those handchecks and hardfouls and basically the most rugged and physical era of the nba. until the nba thinks that this is not becoming a spectator sport and start implementing rules that limit defenses. tinggal ang handchecking, naglagay ng defensive 3 seconds, naglagay ng five second back to the basket rule at kung ano ano pa. and now, lucky are we for we see a lot of poster shots in every game than before! its good to watch those plays. isnt it? but are we deprive of the true game of basketball? yes for some no for others ;D ;D

Not insinuating that at all.  Hahahaha! Kobe is good but has not really revolutionized the game.  He is better than Carter of course.  If one thing...Kobe is the most durable player of all time still playing at a high level in his 17th season.  But years after he retires, I don't know if he will be remembered as somesone who has put his personal stamp on the game.  I don't know if he can shake the impression that he is a poor man's Jordan.  And in that list, Kobe is the one with only 1 MVP.

si kobe... 25 years from now...maaalala ko pa rin yan... yong trying hard copy cat ni MJ na "nangrape?"...  >:D >:D >:D
