Kobe Bryant is the only thing going on for the Lakers right now, he's the only reason why the media even bother to write anything about the team. He is one of the most polarizing personalities in sports world for the past 2 decades. He is a media darling & fans adore him (though many hate him). For the Lakers to lose him because of money is a catastrophe to the organization who as far as people can remember never had any issues spending wise. The Buss family simply adores him & an act of loyalty from them will go a long way image/legacy wise.
sabagay, good point din naman. It will show future star players na if they bring their best to the Lakers, the Lakers will not hesitate to pay them.

That's actually a good point and an acceptable reason.  But wasn't his last contract extension culminating in a $30M pay day this season, already his reward for the reasons stated above?  I remember this same reasoning after just signing his contract extension in 2010.

Indeed the players are more athletic in the modern game - before, those who could jump out of the building were clear standouts, nowadays they are a dime-a-dozen in the NBA.

Also, the game has gotten moooore faster ....... ever since the NBA (again) allowed zone defenses, the pace of the game and movement of players has gotten way quicker.

that's why Tim Duncan is still playing.

that is because he is still Kobe Bryant. wala naman nagbago sa popularity nya. from his 2010 extension up to his 2013 extension. he is still a magnet for fans and haters making the Lakers one if not the most popular team in the NBA.

Not denying as a business move, it might have been a sound decision.  But basketball wise, the problem of cap flexibility that was an issue from the 2010 extension might occur as well during the 2013 extension.

What lakers did yesterday may attract top5 players to join in LAL, it show how Lakers take care of the franchise player. Diba.. lalo silang mag kaka interest to join in LAL which pa retire na si Kobe.

malaki din pala ang pay cut, Lakers fans didn't realize that next season Kobe can nego to Lakers to get 32M/yr contract. Good move na rin ginawa na LO

ito pa..

Kobe: "Fans. God Bless them. But I dont think they understand the cap. I think we will be all right."

Theres also a Factor on who the Franchise build around the Franchise player. See Pat Riley, rumors has it there'll be a Big 4 nest season in Mia. :D Would love it to be Dirk.

See how LBJ was treated by the Cavs org which was alright, but couldn't get decent players around him. Could we trust the Lakers FO do the same? But yeah they got Pau with some soso pieces. Kaya naman pala siguro hehe.

John Wall - grabe speed ng batang 'to. Nakailang one-man fastbreak vs the Lakers kanina. Ang bilis talaga. Hope he expands his range para lalo pang mas dangerous. ganda din nung 360 dunk nya kanina.

Wonder if the sharing will continue when idol returns... hehe.

Go Lakers!!!

Lakers are really playing well...Blake, Farmar, Meeks, Young, Henry, Hill. Credit really goes to D'Antoni.

I remember the Kings before.  They were running on all cylinders and blasting opponents.  Then Chris Webber came back from microfracture surgery.....then that's all she wrote. ;D

The Cavs are a mess. I really thought they would make it to the playoffs this year.

Bennett is a bust now this.

Add to that, inconsistent sobra si Kyrie! just when everyone though he'd break out this season, parang nagregress pa si Kyrie. Maybe some Wiggins can help them next season. haha

Must be the Coaching. I don't know what the Cavs FO was thinking when getting back that Coach.

True... pareho sila ni Paul George last year but this year they are moving in different directions. Si John Wall ang nagpapakitang gilas this year.
