Recommended Speaker Wires
« on: Oct 07, 2013 at 12:05 PM »
Hi Guys, I would like to get your recommendations for speaker wires to use. I'm ok with higher priced brands as long as ok ang build quality. It is better if you can post their retail prices as well kung san pede makabili.

Thanks a lot!

Anong gears mo gagamitin? Kelangan i-level din kasi sa gears para makapagrecommend ng maayos.
Pero to start eto recommendation ko:

Townshend Audio Isolda EDCT (2m = 35k, addtl per m = 14k from PureSound)

HT: JBL | A&D | Denon | LG
Audio: Naim | DeVore Fidelity | Roksan | Dynavector

I have found that every single wire on your system will affect one another...
I am using van damme  blue series which is dirt cheap by audio standard and it matches my system very well... http://www.van-damme.com/23.html
I wish I could get a thicker one though, at least yung 11mm man lang.... Unfortunately wala eto locally.
So just in case someone decides to get some, please let me know. Sabay ako kahit 4 meters lang.

Hard to recommend a specific brand or model. To begin with the ancillary gears most notably the amp and speakers must be responsive to changes in cables and wires. There are systems that are not. That's probably one of the reasons why certain camps dismiss cable rolling because the results they gained is next to nothing when they did it on their system...thus disappointment follows. Who knows you might not even need an upgrade at all. Try to borrow and test extensively first before purchasing.

Try 12AWG flat cord. Dirt cheap and you probably won't notice the difference vs the exotic speaker wires. At least that's what McIntosh Laboratory (yes the makers of GREAT amplifiers) guys say.

depende sa social class, kung Class A ka, yung reply #1, kung C or D, reply #8

pero if your speaker cable will exceed the cost of your amplifiers, then wag na....for me the cost of the  speaker cable must not exceed 5% of your amplifier acquisition cost...yan ang recommended budget mo...

Go for sir Cal's speaker cable and ICs. If you want a budget cable that looks good and solid, Dai Chi sells speaker cables at their Megamall store.

you can also check paololorenzo's DIY speaker wires. good quality and cheap. he uses 12AWG (i think) with ferrite cores and sleeves. I don't have the so called golden ear but I think it improved the sound levels. Before i watch with the volume at around -13db now i just use about -23db. I don't know how that translates but I think that's an improvement.

Who am I to dispute the feelings of audiophiles who, evaluating any cable in the context of program source, amplifier, speaker, and listening room, decide they can hear the difference? A few guidelines have emerged here, but the final judgment belongs to the user. All the special cables mentioned worked well on the test bench and, given the assumption that series impedance should be minimized, all of them work better than 16 gauge wire. If, like many audiophiles, you have spent a small (or large) fortune on your hi-fi system, money spent for high quality cables and connectors is a reasonable investment.

An accepted guideline is that the wire impedance should not exceed 5% of the entire circuit. For a given material, resistance is a function of length and thickness (specifically of the ratio of length to cross-sectional area). For this reason, lower impedance speakers require lower resistance speaker wire. Longer cable runs need to be even thicker. Once the 5% guideline is met, thicker wire will not provide any improvement.

Roger Russell – a former engineer and speaker designer for McIntosh Labs – details how expensive speaker wire brand marketing misinforms consumers in his online essay called Speaker Wire – A History. He writes, "The industry has now reached the point where [wire] resistance and listening quality are not the issues any more, although listening claims may still be made....The strategy in selling these products is, in part, to appeal to those who are looking to impress others with something unique and expensive.

Differences in perceived sound arising from speaker cable upgrades are system dependent. Some systems change sound quality when cables are swapped out to better ones however some don't. Know your system first and familiarize yourself in what it can and can't do. A cable upgrade won't solve speaker deficiencies or mask amplifier limitations if there are to begin with. Borrow cables or at least audition cables in your own system before buying so that your investment is warranted if you like how it sounds.

The differences won't be night and day though so caution on spending too much.
